We decided to try some antibiotic ointment and taping the wound closed. Now that she's not in shock she is bleeding a bit, but seems to be leaving the tape alone. We will keep her inside over night and watch her for now.

Kevin, I hadn't heard of cloacitis, my husband thinks that's what it might be. The coop and run have had a good clean out and are filled with fresh bedding, all the girls have also had a thorough check and nobody else seems sick.

Lost one of my girls yesterday, she was a two year old wyandotte/plymouth mix , normal weight, no feathers missing or anything. She was one of four we bought at the same time and one of the others died unexpectedly last summer with no sign of any illness.
