I've had to fence my 3 veggie gardens off ,but with flowers I seem to have luck once they are PAST the seedling stage they are safe ( for the most part 😅)
Of course constant "get get get " & a chase when small they learn the words and the chase part isn't necessary when they mature 🤣
We are in north Florida, built our coop 5 years ago & we're having the same thought process about a coop door . We have a ton of predators here as well .
Ended up building the coop & run with a nice size buried predator apron and used 1/4" hardware cloth to keep snakes out as well .
I put a...
I guess I should have specified better about coffee grounds . Coffee grounds are not BAD for the garden ,but like anything else you don't want to over do it. I mix tea leaves & coffee grounds into my compost .They should be used in moderation as they can also increase soil acidity. It is...
Only issue I have is I do deep litter method & use the coop clean out to add to compost pile & use for the garden . Excessive amounts of coffee grounds are not good for plants 😩
We also got a TS Roo "pullet" haha happens a lot .
Another alternative is to give him away to someone that doesn't have an issue culling them . Some people post on FB Roos and others collect them up as fast as they are posted !
I wish I could do this instead of the cone ......don't seem to have enough strength. Had to do 2x to sick hens a long time ago and it wasn't quick enough 😢
Another great idea that "hides" the look of the coop is to roll black paint on the hardware cloth ,makes it disappear....painted all the wood black as well ,really made a difference !!
So I read all the reply's and yours as well . Seems that profit is your only goal . . . Look to big business that has failed . You also will fail with the loss of life a huge cost . Guess that's unimportant.
I’m in north Florida and want to acquire ,buy ,trade whatever a couple fertilized chicken eggs for my broody mama for two years to sit on . I’ve posted on Facebook with no luck …..
I tried the time limit and that helps some ,but I finally got tired of them nibbling all my garden veggies and this winter came up with the simplest idea after reading about fences and a zillion other things - we had some freeze. Warnings in N Florida and I covered all my plants at night …...
I joined BYC about two years before I actually got chickens . I had them as a kid & wanted to do the same again . I really wanted to be sure I was giving them the proper home & nutrition that they needed and joining a group like BYC looked like the best option to get answers to my questions .
My biggest mistake was buying two chicks from tractor supply to keep one chick that I inherited company and they all were supposed to be pullets. Definitely not pullets had one rooster and one hen that we call TSD for tractor supply defect .
boy or boy is she a defect she shaped funny she lays...
We have two cats that watch over the chickens , one is a herder the other a watch tower boy ……neither cat has ever lifted an eyebrow or paw towards any of the girls & one actually herds them when they stray too far ….long hair torti is the herding cat , the other just watches the perimeter , at...
I helped a friend before I had chickens ( research stage) build a TSC coop , 2 girls one hour and done ! She got 6 standard size chickens and it was way too small for them to “stay” in , as a home base & free range ability at will it worked (mostly) . A year gone by and the door wouldn’t shut ...
