Official BYC Poll: Why Did You Join BYC?

I joined BYC about two years before I actually got chickens . I had them as a kid & wanted to do the same again . I really wanted to be sure I was giving them the proper home & nutrition that they needed and joining a group like BYC looked like the best option to get answers to my questions .

I had been lurking for awhile and wanted to make an account and ended up making one in a panic after a injury which ended up healing just fine. I’ve mostly ended up hanging around in the gardening, baking and social these days though so I suppose that’s why I’ve stayed.

I joined earlier this year to learn as much as I could before getting chicks,shooting for Spring 22. I seem to learn something new every day, and the ppl are very friendly.

The big plus for this site is all the wonderful people that share there love for there chickens.

I had a question and noticed how widespread this community was. So I joined in hopes of connecting local(talking an hour or less away) enthusiasts like me. Still no luck on that by the way. I know a few people that are keepers(or used to be but gave it up because of medical reasons) as well. But was hoping to find more and create a bit of a localized network of support.

A year ago today, a man gave me a dozen chicken eggs. After a bad experience some years before, I candled them and yes, they were fertile and some were developing. I panicked and came in here wanting to know how to try to hatch them. Some grew and one came close to hatching, but none made it. I've been here ever since.

I had been retired for a few years and all of a sudden felt that I needed chickens. I had had them as a kid, but the predators got them. I learned about cattle panel hoop coops that I could make by myself on this site. So I joined
