I also have a few that I'm pretty sure are quitters, but I could really use some input as I'm fairly green still. Got these eggs from my neighbour who asked me to incubate, but some are really old already. I've removed one that I was pretty sure was rotten. I also have 30 eggs in there, and most...
Baby just hatched! Alive and well. So, placed 3 eggs, 1 late quitter and 2 hatched. My worst hatch rate to date! This is why you place a load of eggs 😂 thank you guys! I loved being part of the hatch-along!
Thank you! Baby has pipped. The first chick then somehow managed to take perfect aim, and pooped directly onto the pip. Poor hatcher, cleaned it off as well as I could immediately, saw it happen thankfully. Ugh, chicks. So cute, yet so gross.
Eek, still waiting for my last egg. It's alive, due to hatch today. Of the 3: 1 died late in incubation (the old egg), 1 hatched and one is still due to hatch. Will update as soon as I know!
We have a healthy chick! Now we awaiting the second one. Let's see what happens!
P.S. Baby sparrow in the bowl, bottom left corner.
P.S.S. Don't mind my wacky setup, it's home built but it works like a charm!
Got my first pip last night, noticed after handling them, didn't expect them until tomorrow! One egg died, the one I knew was too old but tried anyway. And the last one is standing strong! My sparrow chick is a week old already and living in the incubator, I've been opening it multiple times a...
Thank you! Same to you! I might have gone overboard... Since I saw the 5 to 7 days grace period... I've added 2 more Easter Egger eggs and a House Sparrow egg 😱 so I have 4 eggs set and a mini sparrow egg. I don't know what I've done, but I felt wretched leaving the little egg just lying there...
So. I added two eggs at noon. One fresh, one I suspect is too old. If Matilda has listened to my begging at all, I'll add a third egg later today. But for now, mine is 2 eggs. Just because I want to participate! And Easter Egger chicks for Easter Weekend is just too good to pass up!
This is so cool! Argh, wish I could join but my girls are hiding their eggs where I can't find them. I may still set whatever is less than a week old and see what happens. My last bunch I set 11 eggs, 1 was infertile. Of the 10 remaining, I had a 100% hatch rate. They are 4 weeks old now. My...
He was full last night! I haven't checked today yet, will go check in a bit. But I'm sure he gets enough, his crop is just as full as his siblings and he's a little glutton for sure! It's really cute!
Oh I will do this! I check it, but not several times during the day. Thank you! I didn't think to do that. Ha! They were put together thoughtfully yes!
I think so too! He's a real little spitfire, that's for sure. What he lacks in body, he makes up for in spirit. I'll post updates as time goes by, it will just be a while before there will be much to tell probably!
PS. I'm attaching a photo of him with his siblings, just to show him off! (Don't...
If he keeps up like he is going, he should do fine! He's out with his siblings again today. Will just continue to keep a close eye on him. He's too "mature" to hang out with the day olds I see, he wants to scratch around and is clearly bored in the brooder!
I'm so sorry you lost her! Excellent job on care though, you did everything and then some. I'm giving this little guy every chance I can, I'm hopeful since he looks so healthy and seems to develop just as well as the others, just not size!
