Fluffy Butt Acres: Stories of our flock

Tonight I lost Little Mouse. I counted 7 times, walked the barn no less that 3 times inside and out, down the fence line though the snow (no chicken tracks in the snow).... I have to figure who I was missing, so out came the list and I went through it. Calling out names: Fluffy - Bok! (here)...

Fluffy Butt Acres: Stories of our flock

I actually haven't trimmed it in quite a while, she seems to be managing fine, and able to fly up onto the wall and join the wall sitters (darn brats!). Those white spots are hilarious - not expected at all!

    Run Floor

Here (in the past, not so much now) spray lime was used, I would mix the lime (yee gads don’t get that stuff in your eyes!!), with water to make a thick sloppy mixture and paint it on the stall walls, some people would use a sprayer to apply it. It makes everything bright white and helps control...

    Run Floor

I decided not to use concrete in the barn due to expense and as you stated hard to remove if you need to. Those 2’x2’ patio slabs are horrendous to handle, the 1x1 pavers are much easier to put down, I used some around the garden. I use the brick pavers (4”x8”) in the barn - they go down...

    Run Floor

I also use brick pavers in the barn, my whole floor (stalls included) are those pavers. They are relatively easy to install, and drain well. Outside I will use electric fencing to keep predators away. Zap!!! Love electric fencing! If it can keep a bear away from the bins in our work camps it...

I use play sand no issues. And the fine dusty topsoil is like fine powder here in the summer when it’s hot and dry. I think there are many misconceptions surrounding ‘Silica’ Real silica is what is used in abrasive blasting (sand blasting) and this is where people feel that silica is bad, the...

These chickens are practicing for summer And these ladies are also giving it a go - Topsy is a pro! Not sure about the headless hen….. but good theatric use! Clyde the Brave looks like he was electrocuted - well played little man! I almost did lose him over the winter, so it’s with some...

Fluffy Butt Acres: Stories of our flock

Two for Tuesday Yesterday was fabulous - warm and windy - real snow eater weather, lots of flooding though now. And rain on the way. But here are some memories of yesterday ♥️ Everyone wanted to snooze beside or under my lawn chair. Two sleeping beauties - cash is balanced on a brick paver...
