So mama is very protective. But with me she seems to trust me. Is that possible? She ruffles up some but doesn't mind me getting close.

My broody australorp has been sitting on 5 eggs for a week and a half. Now when they hatch or start hatching on day 21 can I add day old chicks that she didn't sit on to the group?? I want to add about 5 more. Will she take to them? THanks!!
I put 2 of my very broody austrolorps in the same crate and somehow one of their comb got a cut and the other went to pecking her and looks like she tore half of it off. It was pretty messy. I am worried about the injured chicken. I have since separated the two and washed the comb with water...
I love my flock, however, I do not love breaking broody chickens every few weeks~! I have a silkie who continues to be broody and 3 out of 4 australorps that take turns being broody. I am sick of it! We live in TX, and its hot, I am about to pop with my 3rd baby, and need ideas how to keep them...
I have since added 3 more babies to my flock- Coco who is a Barred Plymoth Rock, and 2 more Black Australorps. We haven't done another photo shoot just yet! I love my chicks! They are all now about 3 weeks and such a joy. My kids adore each of them.
