White Leghorns, EE's, Red Stars and Red Rangers! So funny that they dyed the top of the RS's heads red so I wouldn't confuse them with the Rangers:) I laughed when I opened the box and saw these little red dots!
This is our first time with Meat Birds and I am wondering what everyone is using to put the birds in for the freezer. Freezer bags, freezer paper? Do you mainly freeze whole, cut or a little of both? thank you all in advance!
Just to make sure this is normal. I read here that X's grow faster then their feathers and have bald spots. Mine have bald bellies and bald spots at the top of their wings. Is this normal and if not, what can I do? Thank you in advance. This is our first time with meat birds.
New Babies arrived yesterday morning from MM! 12 Black Stars, 13 Red Stars, 5 Leghorns, 16 Meat Birds and my surprise chickie. She/he has a poofy head and have no idea what kind of bird it is. We raise for eggs and meat and have never ordered from MM before. Looked on line and saw that...
Could chickens eat the sunflower seeds right out of the flower heads or is it better for them to just eat the seeds? We are growing sunflowers for the chickens and we were wondering if they would just pick them out themselves? Thank you
We have a real mix of backyard chickens and this is the first time we let Broodies set eggs. Out of 8 white eggs ALL are Roo's. The Rooster is a Game Hatch and the hen is a White Leghorn. They all came out white or light yellow with black spots, some have 1 or 2 black spots and some more...
Could not believe that one of our "new" 17 babies laid an egg today at 17 weeks! Saw her practicing nesting, or so I thought, and look a tiny green egg:) WOW!
I have seven babies that a White Leghorn hatched (strange but true) they are getting big quick and learning fast from momma! 13 days old.
Day old we call Speedy!
I have been trying to use the "search" to help find what I need. I get the same thing no matter what I search for. Needed help with "delaware chicks", I get "raining in North Caroline" "fermenting feed for meat birds"? Then I entered "pasty butts", same things came up? Help please
My second leghorn to go broody, got on the wrong nest some time today. My were question is, how long can she be off the eggs before they are no longer viable? I was gone most of the day and when I came back she was on the wrong nest. The eggs were not cold, but they were not warm. Anyone...
White Leghorn number one DID IT, she is hatching now! Can't believe she went broody and sat the whole 21 days, so proud of her, now lets see if number 2 goes the distance! I'll get picture as soon as my sweet Lucy, (who has now turned evil queen) lets me get close!
We have 5 babies...
One is on day 16 and we are so excited. Yesterday, another White Legorn started sitting on 5 of them. I have BO's, RIR, EE's, SLW and GLW and the White Leghorns are the ones that go broody!!!! Go figure:) Can't wait to post pics of the babies, hope they are successful!
I have 2 hens that went broody yesterday and one is a White Leghorn. I thought that they did not do that? I was so surprised, just thought she was being lazy laying, but no, I got up this morning and she is still sitting on 4 eggs.
Has anyone else had a Leghorn go broody?
Thanks!
I have 6 EE Roos, 5 are black and white and one is black, they are 8 weeks old and looking for a new home! I'm only asking 5.00 each or a better deal for all. Thanks everyone, wish I could keep them all, but would rather see them rehomed then freezer camp:)
Egg went off the scale and measured 2.75" in length! OWIE, but I am so proud of our Tina, she did a great job.
The other large one is from my GLW, but that is her regular size. Tina is a Marans/Game mix and not very big! Way to go Tina!!!
Double? I'll let ya know!
I have about 40 week old WL that was wounded about a week ago. Not sure all that happened, but she was cut open from under her eye to her beak and she was limping when she walked. I took her out and put her in our "jail" pen and tended to her and she healed nicely. Last night we put her back...
