My birds leg bands all broke off so I now do not know who belongs to who. Here is the situation. I have 2 Roos, 1 Cream Legbar and 1 Wheaton Ameraucana. The CLB was in with an Olive Egger in hopes of getting Spearmint Eggers and the Ameraucana was in with a Salmon Faverolle=Favaucanas, a Blue...
Does anyone happen to know the Scientific name Species and Sub species of the Faverolles? I am having a hard time with the fact that it comes up as a RED jungle fowl. I can understand it being a sub species of one, but I need to know that scientific sub species name. Anyone? Anyone? Bueller...
Will someone PLEASE take my handsome boy. He is 8 months old, he is a Tolbunt Polish Frizzle that I hatched. He actually won BV BB at the Arizona State Fair...this of course was when I thought that he was a she. I can not have a rooster here and how I found out is he just started crowing...
Hello fellow hatchers!
I am freaking out a bit. I have been closely monitoring the humidity and it was pretty stable at 60-65%. Yesterday, day 20 I had 3 out of 11 pipped. This morning I wake up to 2 chicks hatched and 1 attempting to say hello to the world. However, with that being said...
Day four in the incubator, I leave at 7:40 am and get home at 1:30 pm to find that my incubator is at a whopping 102.4 freaking degrees. Did I just cook my eggs or do I still have a chance with these?
Thank you!
I am needing your help in what type of sand I should use for the flooring for my girls. I called the local quarry and asked about their finest washed sand as that is what the Chicken Chick suggested I look in to. My options are mortar sand or concrete sand. Do any of you have any experience...
Today is day 21 and I am panicking that there is not one single pip in there. I only have a dozen, but still last go around all the ones that hatched were already pipping through. How long do I wait before I should really be concerned?
I have 2 eggs that are cracked all the way around but the chicks have stopped trying to come out. It has been 24 hours since their first pip through the shell. The humidity is at 63 and they are hardly peeping anymore. Do I help them hatch?
Thank you!!!
I have 3 different types of eggs in my bator right now. I am on day 16 and concerned about them hatching when I am not around and do not know who is who. Could someone suggest how to keep them with their mates so they don't get mixed up?
Thank you!
I candled my eggs on day 15 and only saw veiny looking things in 3 of the eggs. If they do not show any veins as of now does that mean that the rest of them are no good? Also, when I open the bator there is a not so pleasent smell in there. Not like something rotting, but most definitely not...
I feel like a total idiot!!! I put eggs in the incubator on 6/30...yes this is my first time. I thought that the thermometer that came with the bator was reading at 99.5 and consistently staying there as I locked and loaded everything a week before getting the eggs and it was maintaing. THEN...
This is my first time incubating eggs, wish me luck! I received them yesterday and hopefully July 20th I will have chicks. Several of them were scrambled when they showed so we will see. Do people incubate eggs all year long?
Hi friends,
I need help...yet again. I received my eggs today and several are cracked. Do they need to be 100% perfect in order to put them in the incubator?...Yes this is my first time, I am a virgin! Also, I have heard several differnt things about how long I should let them settle once...
I am hatching my first set of eggs. They are getting mailed out tomorrow and I should have them by the end of the week. I have read and reread directions a million times, I just want to get yout take on what to do.
Set up the incubator and get the temperature accurate days before receiveing...
I saw the other day on someone's car a BEAUTIFUL chicken decal, sticker, what have you. That was sparkly, pink, and pretty big! I asked her as I was driving next to her going about 40 where she got it from and she replied with, "I don't know, online somewhere." I have been searching for it for...
I am having a problem with there being just about more flies inside the house than there are out. I have at least 30 inside at any given time. I have added to the kids chore list to kill 10 flies a day. I read that there are natural plants that would keep them away like...False Indigo...
Is anyone good at telling the breed of a chicken? My dad recently hopped on board with my fascination of chickens. After I would not give him any of mine he got 2 of his own but the guy he got them from has no idea what they are.
Thanks!
