Hello, I ordered 10 ameraucana chicks this summer from a local hatchery, my chicks are now 12 weeks old and I have 6 hens and 4 Roos. All of the ameraucana Roos had very prominent fluffy cheeks, but only two of my hens have the fluffy cheeks... I can post photos later tonight, but I have three...
I have two 3 weeks & 1 day old chicks. I suspect that I have one pullet and one cockerel, as they are both very different looking. Yesterday I noticed a bit of a comb growing on the one that I suspect is a cockerel. Right now it is very yellow, when will it start to turn red if it is a cockerel?
I've had hens in the past, and thought it was hilarious to let them run around in my moms garden and bath in the soil (and ruin her garden in the process, hehehe take that mom...)
anyways, I have a couple 3 week old chicks, and only ONE of them is performing this behaviour with the pine...
I bought a guinea pig / rabbit style water bottle that hangs on the side of the cage, for my week old chicks to drink from.
I had the water bottle in the rabbit cage that I currently have 2 chicks in, for about 2 days and they just didn't figure out how to use the thing. Infact they didn't...
They are both Barred Rock Chicks that have some Cochin in them (both have feathery feet). Can anyone tell me if you can tell if they are male or female? One is dark almost all black and one is black/yellow. I think the darker one is male, the lighter is female but what do I know!!! HELP!
EDIT...
