I have about 10 chicks from a recent hatch. The one in question was supposed to be a Wyandotte, but is all back (yes, developing all black feathers) and has black legs. Is this really a Wyandotte? Or another breed? I think the guy who shipped the eggs might have mixed this one up.
Over the weekend, I had a very problematic hatch. One of the chicks was having an especially difficult time getting out, so I helped the little gal. I thought at the time she was just straining her neck in an attempt to wriggle free of the shell (she had positioned poorly and was having...
This is my first time hatching Cream Legbars. As you probably know, they are an autosexing breed. Based on the dot that should be on their head, I only see one boy in the five, but I might be missing something. Anyone want to take a shot at sexing the chicks below?
I have a brand new Inside mount version of Foy's top-rated automatic coop door opener for sale. I paid $220 to purchase it but ended up never needing to use it. It's still in the original packaging.
What a great product! Used in Europe for years. Foy's is proud to be your distributor in...
I don't see any of the rooster tail feathers on this one, but the neck feathers and bright red/large comb have me wondering. Plus, this little one decided to try crowing this morning. It was a very strangled sound, so it could be a hen impersonating a rooster, but I'm doubtful. Thoughts???
He or she is about 15 weeks old. He/she does crow in the morning, but only a few times and I've heard that in a flock of all hens that sometimes the dominant hen will crow. I've posted a few more photos of my little gal/guy below.
I recently traded a young rooster I had for what I was told was a black sex-link hen about the same age. However, I'm starting to doubt whether she's a hen at all. When I first brought her/him home and introduced her/him to the other members of the flock, she/he immediately began fighting with...
I have a small flock of teenager chickens. Recently, a few of them have started fighting each other. They fluff out their neck feathers and stare each other down a bit before a small tussle. It doesn't last long and no one gets hurt. My question is more on whether I can finally determine which...
I'm new to chickens and finally ready to buy my first chicks. I didn't want many, so the online route is a bit expensive and I'd prefer not to subject my new babies to shipping since I wouldn't be able to pick them up when they first arrived at the post office. I have found a number of local...
After considering the idea for a few years, I have finally decided to take the plunge and try my hand at raising a few backyard chickens. I have found a number of farmers around with other chicks they're willing to sell for a good price, but I don't even have my coop built yet. I'm trying to...
