I really don't want to put this month old chick down. I stink at killing birds. She got stuck between a tree and the fence outside (they just went out day before yesterday to live in the coop). She was fine, just cold, so I brought her into the house to warm up, set her on the stairs next to my...
I bought 9 Blk Australorps last night. As of an hour ago, two are dead, and two are in a separate brooder under their own light, splay legged and weak. Been giving electrolyte/sugar water. They're not acting interested in food. What do I try next?!
Just got 14 more chix today. One is acting odd, rolling its head down toward its chest, falling over. The rest all seem fine. Any ideas on what or why it's doing this? I'm scared to pur it in with the others. Help?
I am pretty sure our little Buff Orpington pullet has a broken right leg. I put a popsicle stick splint on it (not very well, I'm afraid). She is not able to put any weight on it. Will it heal? We've never had a bird break a leg before. I'm in dire need of some advice. I really don't want to...
My daughter bought a few chicks at the local feed store earlier this Spring. The others all seem to be pullets, but this one? I'm not so sure. Does anyone have an idea on the gender of this bird? The other chicks don't have the tail feathers going up like this one. Help?
We've tried dripping water into her beak. No response. She looks bad, and feels terribly boney on her backside. Her eyes are closed, and she won't open them. Just got her last Tuesday, from McMurray hatchery. Any ideas? Sugar water? Electrolytes? Help!
The 'exotic' chick from McMurray Hatchery was discernable from the start. She is light blonde, lighter than the Buff Orps we ordered, and she has a round-ish top-hat fluff on her head, along with featherless eye areas. I don't know how to post pics of her here, but if someone can tell me how to...
I know rhubarb leaves are poisonous, due to high levels of oxalic acid. Are they deadly to chickens? We had a huge windstorm yesterday, and my new rhubarb start fell off the porch, into the chicken run. Of course, they promptly ate every leaf on it. They are all still roaming around today. They...
I discovered our Australorp, Norbert, this morning, lying near the fence with her feathers all fluffed up, not moving. Thought at first she was dead, then saw she was breathing, not really shallowly, but very slowly. She doesn't appear to be injured (no blood or visible damage), and was fine...
