    Sad day, I unplugged the incubator for the summer.

    Well I just had my last hatch for the summer. The incubator is unplugged. :( My family has asked me to cool it with the hatching for the summer. How will I sleep without the hum of the fan running? 'Sigh' what to do now. Countdown to fall hatches!! Anyone else taking a summer break?

    Had a terrible hatch, made these improvements.

    I just finished my first hatch and it didn't go so well. 28 eggs made it to lockdown, 15 hatched, one died from wrong end pipped and the rest never pipped but were fully formed. My humidity was good, but I did have to play with it a bit during hatching so I'm not sure if that contributed to them...

    How do I clean up all the frozen poop?

    I clean my coops daily by using a big metal dust pan to scape all the poop together, then scooping it out. The more formed poop still comes up relatively easy, but the softer, patty shaped ones are now frozen mounds on the coop floor (not to mention the run). A day or two isn't bad but five days...

    Asking again about gender of speckled sussex. UPDATED PICS 5/21

    So I'm asking everyone again what they think about my speckled sussex. He/she is about 10 weeks old and I've already had to rehome my blue EE whom turned out to be a cockerel. I find the waiting hard, but I plan on waiting till i get an egg or a crow. Thanks for the opinions.
