So we had four chickens many years ago in AZ and they were quite lively and laid eggs all the time. When fed, we had to dodge out of the way lest we get pecked if we stood too close to the food. Any veggie left overs from our table would be devoured quickly. They would run around the yard and...
Looking for four hens for laying/pets. Prefer to get a variety of breeds, ideally one or two Ameraucana and a couple others. I live near Nashville / Franklin, Tennessee.
I saw this news article today and think that if they cannot find a taker, they may cull the birds :(

I am fairly certain if you live in that area and contact the station, they could put you in touch with...
Looking for a nice home for our girls - we may be moving across country and would rather rehome them sooner than later.
One is a California Black (?) and the other an Americauna. Both laying currently, maybe a year to a year and a half old.
The Americauna has been raised (by someone else)...
We have four hens and since I have moved a long distance due to a job, the rest of the family cannot care for all of them. We are keeping the California Grey and the Ameraucana. We are looking to rehome the white one and the brown one (Penelope and Gretchen). They are each just over one year...
I am not sure if these are related or not.
I have three hens who all share a coop that is 8x8x7 and they free range in the back yard all day.
Recently the black one became broody. Sat in the nesting box (plastic crate on its side) all day and night. For the last 2 days I have closed the...
So my three hens have been doing just fine until this morning. I have a black a brown and a white. Black is the alpha of the group. So far just normal pecking order stuff.
But today I went out there and white and brown are trying to lay eggs. White is in the nesting box all ready to go but...
I have my three hens on Nutrena 16% Crumbles Layer Feed. I also have acquired 40 dozen eggshells. Is it OK to grind the shells up and toss it on the ground as a calcium supplement or would that risk giving them too much calcium (is that even a thing?)?
Sorry for all the questions I am about to pose...hopefully I can get this stuff right!
I have just gotten 3 hens, about a year old. One white, one black, one brown (which makes this story much easier to tell ). No idea what breed (how do I tell?). They all live underneath a fort that was...
Brand new owner, so sorry to start a new thread on what is likely one of the most discussed topics here. But I looked over a lot of threads and there is so much information that it is difficult to figure out the best answer.
OK...we just got 3 year old hens the other day. First time owning...
