    Naturally hatching Light Brahmas

Hi! We are developing homesteaders and have 53 light brahams that we got from a hatchery for meat and eggs. 10 of them should be Roos. The rest should be pullets. They are about 11 weeks old (hatched on April 15th) and are getting BIG! We have had them outside with our 5 older hens with just...

    First molting... Still no eggs.

We got day old chicks (7 red star and 1 white leghorn) last April and they started laying in the Fall and they were doing great! We were getting an average of 10 eggs a day then it started getting cold and they slacked up to maybe one or two a day. We live in West Tennessee so it hasn't been...

Ok so we have 8 laying hens (no roos) for food eggs in our current pen and coop. It's pretty big for just 8 hens. We also have another "shed" that runs along one side of the pen and we are considering converting that into another coop, running another piece of fence through the pen to separate...

Rearranging the coop - will they stop laying?

I posted this on my last thread but since it's different I guess I need I post a new one. My hubs and the chickens have kind of made the coop a mess. If I rearrange things a bit and lay down some new hay, will it make them stop laying?

All eight of my hens are laying in the same two nests...?

I must admit that I haven't actually seen any lay their eggs. I just come in and there they are. I have 8 Red Star hens and they are 19 weeks old and we got our first eggs on Saturday, August 11 and we had 5 eggs together in the same nesting box. Then none on Sunday, 3 in the same box on Monday...

Need help reusing an old walk in coop please!

Hi folks I'm new here and new to chickens in general. My husband was raised on the farm but hasn't had chickens for a long time. He does things the way his grandfather did them and sometimes it seems harder or not safe enough. We are using his grandfathers old walk in coop for our 10 - 5 week...
