I found some nice bamboo (very sturdy) that someone tossed away. Is it a good idea to use them as roosts, or is bamboo too slick for the chickens to grip?

I'm going to build a 8x20 run (8'high) and am considering either wire fencing or hardware cloth for the roof with a tarp for shade, but I'm concerned about the occasional snow/ice storm. Any suggestion? Thank you
I'm finally ready to gather up pallets to make my first coop. I'm planning on using concrete blocks to raise it off of the ground just a bit, but the floor will be dirt. I'm considering using eight pallets for the floor and walls four-pallets high. I'm thinking I'll need to get a couple of 2x4's...
Books say that temp of coop can be controlled nicely by integrating a "green roof" on the top of the coop. I would love to do this to add appeal to the coop and to grow small plants/flowers at the same time.
