Finally get to build a coop!

Raised bed gardening and chicken tractor

Chickens as garbage disposals.....
So my primary use of my (soon to be) chickens will be as garbage disposals. A weird use, I know...but...hey..it works for me. Anyway..... If you were to use your birds as fridge and plate cleaners...would you just dump things whole into a pan, or would you buzz them up in a blender or food...- Tegan

Reasons they stopped laying?
Alight, so my first batch of quail. I had them inside for the first 7 weeks. They started laying around 6 weeks, I moved them outside at 7 weeks about 2 weeks ago (give or take). Egg laying continued to increase until a few days ago. Then suddenly stopped. No predators or anything else... -
My first egg!!
Got my first egg today, on the same day that my second batch of quail are hatching! Very exciting day!!! -
What did I DO?!?
I have 120 eggs going into lock down tonight. I have a brooder that holds maybe 25 comfortably for a few weeks.... Right now I have 9 adult(ish) birds in it.... I think I need a bigger box. Oops! -

I am absolutely DONE caring that chickens aren't "legal" in my city. I have quail in my basement right now, and I'll be moving them out to the old rabbit hutches (that I raised meat rabbits in and no one complained) as soon as the weather stops being stupid and getting hot then cold then hot...- Tegan

Eggs go into lockdown tonight!
In an hour or so I'm going to put my eggs into lock down. This is my first time hatching eggs. Jumbos and Texas A&M, 15 of each. Excited and nervous! Hope everything "comes out" ok hehehe. -
Keeping quail in garden beds?
I haven't started with quail yet, but I'm planning on getting some to hatch out here fairly soon. I plan on keeping my breeders in cages in the basement (may move them outside if smell becomes an issue.) I will be keeping them for eggs and meat both. I have rabbit hutches out back with well... -

Plants or bushes for stealth run
Until I get the laws changed here I'm looking into idea for a stealth run. I'd like to use a large dog kennel for a run and plant something aroubd the outside to partially conceal it. What woulf be safe and grow enough...also still provide coverage in winter in iowa? Excuse typeing...- Tegan

Waukee, IA anyone working on this?
Right now Waukee, IA doesn't allow "farm animals" but our neighbors in West Des Moines can have whatever they want as long as it's not "running at large", Des Moines can have up to 30 birds in a lot under an acre as long as they are 25 feet from all residence.
