    Growing grass

Has anyone had any luck growing grass to replace what's been dug up while allowing the chickens to free range? Thanks!

    Bedding for my girls

I picked up arm & hammer essentials 100% corn fiber cat litter to use in the brooder box. When I opened it up it has a light scent to it. You think its ok to use? I'm concerned about if they eat it, which they will likely do. Thanks!

    Input needed.... run advice

So I am building my own run and coop. I want to build my run first because my girls are only 4 weeks and still have a few weeks left in the house until they are big enough and it is warm enough for them to be outside overnight BUT they do go out during the day in an oversized dog crate. I am...

    Pecking order. ...

I have 5 girls. 2 BO, 2 WO, and a partridge cochin. They are almost a month old. Today when I was putting their waterer into their brooder, one of the BO's was stalking my hands and pecking at my nails!(unpolished) Now a couple of weeks ago pecks were no big deal but now they hurt a tad. I then...

    My 5 bratty girls

To celebrated Mother's Day I took the girls into the yard for some fresh air. I have them in an old dog crate so I put them on the ground and took the tray out of the bottom so they could forage in the grass. Then they got a treat of wild rice cooked with rye and wheat berries and craisins and...

    Wasting food

I am getting my 5 girls out of a one quart feeder. Daily I am throwing out almost half of the food. Does anyone just leave it in? I hate that I am wasting so much food.

    Poop

It's brown. Not runny but not hard either. It's not foamy, bubbly, or anything. It doesn't look like the rest. I have noticed this only out of one of my girls. She is 2 1/2 week cochin. She backs up, wiggles, I could have sworn I heard a fart, then she poops and moves on with her day. She is...

    Ourdoors Adventures

Took my five girls outside today. I put my 2 week old white orpington out on the grass. She freaked and ran back in the crate. They all spent the rest of their time in the crate in the sun. I hope the outdoors isn't going to be a problem! !! Lol

    Report card.... New Momma here.

I am just checking with the professionals here to make sure that I am doing well by my chickens. I feed my 5 - 2 week olds Dumour chick starter/grower. I have a quart sized feeder and right now I am changing it once a day. I am wasting probably 1 cup of feed daily but it generally has some...

    Mystery chick needs identity.

Does anyone know what I have here? This was my mystery chick. I am hoping she is a she. Right now she is just a crazy loud mouth. And yes, she has a bit of poop on her. She got a little crazy when I picked her up! :)

Ok so I am a new chickie mommy to 4 orpingtons (2 buff, 2 white) and 1 mystery loud mouth! I am hoping that said loud mouth is a hen but ... well I am just hoping! Babies were hatched on April 19th. I have had them in a rubbermaid tub with pine shavings up until today, I moved them into my old...
