Well my coop is about finished. Just need some rope and pulleys. A few more pieces of wood for trim. Then finish painting and it's all done. I'm so proud of this thing!!! The ladies moved in this afternoon and seem to be enjoying the extra room. The coop is 6' by 6' and the run is 6' by 12'.
I live in Florida and all our leafs have just falling. Is it OK to use leafs for bedding? They say to make good compost use 2/3rds brown and 1/3rd green so this mixture should work well for that. I put hay in the nesting boxes. I don't want them uncomfortable but I have massive amounts of leafs.
I'm new to chickens and I believe I have lazed my chickens. When they were younger I would put them up in the coop. Now they huddle under it until I come out and put them back in for the night instead of going in at dusk. Anyway to fix this behavior? They get down in the AM just fine.
I'm extremely new to chicken raising. I have 5 eight week old chicks. I have seen them lay on their sides and kind slide their breast on the ground.It is as if they are trying to get something off of them or scratch. It is sorta disturbing to watch as they seem to be having a fit of some sort...
We are new to chickens but have jumped in with both feet. We have 5 chicks now, 3 leghorns and 2 pullets. Working on the new coop which I will post here when complete. We are looking to get 7 more chicks but haven't decided on a breed yet.
