    Oyster shell advice

I have three pullets, one our RIR started laying on Sunday, so we started offering oyster shell, free choice. Our other two birds, a BR and Aussie haven't laid yet but they are ALL ABOUT the oyster shell. Is it ok for them to eat it? They are 27 and 25 weeks and they get a grower and layer mix...

    No eggs, what gives?

I have 26 weeker RIR and BR and a 24 weeker Australorp, no eggs? They are on a mix of grower/starter and layer (because I had so much grower left over and knew they'd soon need layer). They get produce scraps and forage the yard, acv in the water and all that jazz. Am I doing something wrong?

I could REALLY use some advice, please...

We are very novice chicken keepers. We got three pullets 2 weeks ago from a ranch where they were raised. The three were brought home together, stayed in the coop for a full week before I let them out in the yard and established their pecking order quite well, and with no blood shed. That was...

5 month old cockerel or pullet?

I'm pretty sure Dorothy is in fact a she, but our BO just turned out to be a roo so I'm questioning things now. Can anyone tell me what they think and what grounds they base their info on (I'd like to learn as much as I can). Thank so much!

    A crowing pullet? Oh no!

I think I may have a Rooster, though everyone tells me that she looks like a girl, my Buff Orpington crowed this morning! She is 4 months old with a very red, well grown comb and waddle. I worry she is a he because my BR and RIR barely have a comb and waddle and they are 5 months. Someone also...

    Pecking or pruning?

I'm new to chickens and don't really know chicken behavior. My birds prune themselves and sometimes feathers come out, they aren't OCD about pullin feathers, it's just like they are cleaning themselves. However, my BO is often pecking at my RIR and BR. I'm not sure if this is true hen pecking or...

How high shoul a roost be?

Just had a major coop catastrophe...the roosting bar fell down and the birds were freaking out! I don't think any are hurt but this is the second night I've had to help one of them onto the roost, I don't know if there is enough room for her to get up there if the others are already purched, but...
