So we are having some fantastic success getting our town ordinance changed and are actually working together. Here is a sticking point....We need some wording help. We want to somehow word the ordinance to say that if you do not have a privacy fence that you have to keep your chickens a...
We had to put one of our chickens down this morning. This is a first for me. This is our first year having chickens. She had a prolapse...I soaked her butt in warm water, lubed her up and even pulled part of an egg membrane out. She was suffering. I hated to have to do it but.....My husband...
Probably a stupid question, but is there anything I can do to keep my girls from getting in my garden?? I have a smaller fence that keeps my dogs out but the birds can fly into it pretty easy. When I'm outside with them, they don't get into it. It's when I leave them to their own devices that...
I took my old nesting boxes out because my girls were sleeping/pooping in them. They aren't laying yet so I didn't want them to get used to doing that. I decided to put kitty litter containers and a bucket for their nesting boxes. They are so much better and seem to be more compact. Hoping...
Here's a picture of my girls just hanging out in the open window of their coop. They have multiple perches inside but a few like just hanging out the window. I have more fun watching them than anything...it's better than TV. lol
Here's a short video of some of my girls taking a dust bath today. I have sex links and there might be an EE in there too. Of course they are doing all this under the watchful eye of Lola...Shih Tzu chicken guard dog. She is obsessed with the chickens. Follows them around and has to be in...
My hens are about 13 weeks old right now and we removed the nesting boxes from the coop because they were sleeping/pooping in the boxes. How will we know when it's time to put them back in? There wasn't a way for me to block them off so I just took them out.
Thanks!
Jill :)
I have noticed that when the hens "go to bed" for the night, they aren't sleeping on the perches inside the coop. They all seem to be perching on top of their nesting boxes or around the edges of them. Should I even worry about this? They aren't old enough to lay yet. They are only about...
We have finally completed our coop. Whew...we totally enclosed the run but have started to occasionally let them in the yard with us when we are outside. My dogs are slowly getting used to them. We used sand in the run and inside the coop. Hoping that makes it easier to clean and less...
We have 10 hens...6 mixed (RIR? RSL?) and 4 EE. I have a completely enclosed run with sand. It has 3 perches outside for them and inside the coop it has 2 perches and then the nesting boxes. My question is this...do I need to put other things out in the run to keep them from getting bored...
I'm new to the forums but thought I'd post a short clip of my "girls" and their dandelions. Who knew that I could weed my flower beds/yard and make them happy at the same time. As soon as I use up all of my pine shavings and other stuff I already have, I'm going to try the sand in their coop...
Hello All!!
I'm new to the chicken scene..I currently have 10 chickens that are about 8-9 weeks old. I have 6 Rhode Island Red mixed and 4 Araucana. My husband built a coop in our backyard that is fully enclosed. My 14yr old daughter talked my husband into buying 6 chicks before we were...
