A lot of my friends have asked me to post pictures of my coop, so I decided this is the place to do it. Once I decided to get chickens, the hunt was on to find a coop. I searched the internet and looked for play houses and various storage buildings that were for sale. Then, a friend told my...
My chickens will molt for the first time this fall. (I have 9 hens and 1 rooster.) Will the rooster continue to try to mate the hens during molt? I have read that they will be very sensitive to touch as their new feathers grow in, and I do not want Solomon, the rooster, to hurt them.
I know this sounds crazy, but I am either missing an egg or a chick. I had 5 eggs under my hen, Rudy. Three have hatched. When Rudy got up, I noticed that one egg is still intact, and two eggs are broken into two pieces and empty. To be honest, I have no idea what happened to the other shells...

I got my chicks when they were two days old. They are splash orpingtons. As you can see, the one on the right is very small. She seems to be the same size as when we got them, about one month ago. She eats, drinks, and acts normal. As a matter of fact, I have seen her walk on top of the others...
Hello everyone. I just recently acquired eight new chicks, four buff orpingtons and four barred rocks. They are now about eight weeks old and not vaccinated for anything. I started reading many of the posts and have been focusing a lot of time on health related issues. Wow...so many thoughts...
