    New to hatching guineas

I'm going to try my hand at hatching guineas. I've attempted to help my mother and she got 6 live out of about two dozen but only two made it. So I'm going to try to incubate a half batch of guineas and a half of Marans. Do what do I need to know about hatching two kinds of eggs. I know the...

    HELP! Swollen eye!

I went out to feed my chickens this morning and found a girl with a swollen eye. It's so swollen that her beak doesn't line up. Is there ANYTHING I can do or do we need to put her down. I'm afraid of her starving since she can't get her beak closed properly.

    Help with ReptiPro 6000 bator

I'm purchasing a used ReptiPro 6000 from a friend. It doesn't have the automatic turner in it. Is there another brand of turner that will fit into it besides the ReptiPro brand?

    Dusting for fleas

I'm not positive that this belongs in this thread. But fleas are certainly pests!! I need to dust my yard for fleas. My poor furry friends can't go 24 hours after a bath without coming back in with them. Even if I try to limit their outside time to "necessary business." My girl, Minnie, has one...

Help! I think my new roo has an injured foot.

I brought home my new five month old Blue Copper Splash Marans this evening. As I was holding him and bonding this evening, I think I saw a bloody spot on the very bottom of his foot, where the thick soft pad is. I will have to wait until my husband gets home to help me inspect it and take...

A few general questions about rasing chicks

To start, if you've not read anything I've posted, I'll do a quick run through of my little flock. Six 4 1/2 week old Black Lorps, Five 2 1/2 week old Welsummers, Five 2 1/2 week old Black Lorps, and Eleven 4 day old Buff Orphingtons. Now on to my questions... What age is recommended for...

How long should they stay in the brooder?

I have 8 Welsummer and 10 Black Lorps in a brooder together. They're all about a week and a half old. The Welsummers are already putting in great looking wing feathers. The BLs are slower putting theirs in. As seen in the photo below, I let my babies out and into their "play pen" when it's nice...

    Bad news Monday

Josh comes in from work this morning and tells me he has some bad news. I'm thinking oh dear, they've laid him off. Thank God that wasn't it. Though it was equally sad news. Something killed Baby Chick last night. This is the second chicken we've lost to a wild animal. I'm so very sad, if you've...

    Renewed love for chickens!

Hi everyone. I'm going to take the easy way out and copy/paste the cheat sheet. (1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? I am certainly not new to chickens. My parents had a yard full when I was a teenager. I remember them bringing home month old chicks and...
