    Latest (and most successful) Hatch!

I am so happy! 14 out of 17 eggs hatched! Not too bad a percent, I hope! Here's some pics of the little buggers. All but 2 of them are Silkies, the 2 who aren't are from and Austrolorp roo and could be from any of my hens (RIR, EE, Austrolorp, Lt Brahma, or one of the "mutt" hens) In this last...

    Hatching time!!!

Okay, so my last 2 hatches (I have one batch currently cracking away) hatched early. Last hatch started pipping within a few hours of going into lockdown, and I locked down a little early! Then this hatch started within 12hrs of lockdown and today is hatch day and 10 out of 17 eggs have hatched...

At this time I have a black roo with 3 white hens, 1 buff hen, 1 partridge hen and 1 black hen and the evil girls all like to lay in the middle of the night so I don't know whose eggs are whose so you...

    Incubating twins?

I candled my eggs a little while ago and in the largest egg, it looks like 2 chicken babies. WTH?? I have never gotten a double yolker out of my girls but it could happen because these eggs are HUGE. Is this a semi common occurance? Will it hatch?

    Weird substance under chicken skin?

My husband processed a couple of our chickens today and it turns out 1 of them was egg bound and when he was cleaning her up said there was a viscous liquid under the skin. Does anyone know what this is and is it okay to put the chicken in the freezer for a later date?

    Huge chick brooder......for FREE!!

I have 20 dorking, 2 mysteries, and 3 silkies. My mom and I were going to build a large brooder for them but were having issues. She picked up 2 pieces of scrap vinyl siding that were interlocked and had an "AHA!" moment. This is what she came up with. It's super easy to move, which means...

    Mystery Chick

Does anyone know what breed this is? It's one of my freebies that came with my Dorkings. The package just said straight run exotic. I think it's a bantam because it's smaller than the others.

    Somebody PLEASE help me!

I'm attempting to hatch turkey eggs and everything seemed fine. They started rocking and moving earlier today and around 8pm (EST) I noticed a t shaped crack in one. Exciting right? Well about 45min ago, I check them and the one with the t shaped crack has a streak of what looks like thick yolk...

    Incubating turkeys

Let me preface this by saying I have never incubated before. I got 24 turkey eggs from a lady who lives about an hour from me, 6 were for a friend but the rest are ours. I put all of them in my incubator. It is now day 10 and I still don't see veins! Either they are there and I'm just not seeing...

My husband thinks I've lost it! I have 24 turkey eggs in my incubator and I am having to force myself to leave them alone. LOL. They are on day 8 and I've candled twice, once when we put them in, to make sure they were fertilized, and again today to see what could be seen. I am not seeing any...
