My eggs are not supposed to hatch till tomorrow . Incubator says days 2 . Is it bad they are hatching early? I know it is just a day but the newbie/ mommy in me is worried. This is only our second time incubating.
We have three chicks that are 5 weeks tomorrow. All 7 eggs hatched (one died the day it was born) but we overheated and lost 3.
We put them in our huge laundry sink for the first week. We then moved them into the shed with a rubbermaid tote. They are pretty big but still have enough room. At 10...
The chicks are climbing over each other and the unhatched eggs. Should I take the egg shells out for more room?
Edited to clarify this is an incubator that holds 7 eggs.
For about a week my 3 leghorns have disappeared at night. My son Did not tell me when he was locking up the coop but I noticed one morning that they were out before the coop was unlocked. Mystery solved tonight. They are roosting about 10 feet up in a tree on a branch. Why???how do I get them...
We have 1 Barred Plymouth Rock, 3Rhode Island's and3 leghorn's. the BPR is about a year old and lays daily. The other 6 were born April 4. For two days in a row I have got two eggs. Is it possible one of the chicks is already laying? It is not much smaller and a lighter color then the regular...
Our chicks were born April 3-4. Today we got a very small egg- 1/2 the size we usually get from our two chickens. It is about the size of an avacado put. I say it s just a freaky small egg. He is convinced it s a 'beginner' egg. Is that even possible at 12 weeks?
We took an outbuilding made of 6 utility posts, tarp walls and a multi layered roof and converted half into a coop. "Hillbilly carpentry at its best" is what my husband calls it. We tried to use what we had and bought what we needed. Even the kids helped! Our chickens are free range so we do not...
We are installing rain barrels this week. I am wondering if I can use the water for my chickens. If so can I still use the mosquito dunks?if not is there something safer to use that will prevent Mosquitos?
Tonight my husband and I went to lock up the coops and noticed one chicken was missing. This chicken, in hindsight , has been acting weird.
A little back story. We have two small coops, one for our chicks and one for our 3 chickens and rooster. We are converting an outbuilding into a coop asap...
Hi my name is Jody and we live in NC. We owned chickens for a brief time many years ago but it has been so long we feel like we are totally new to it. We started with 6 chicks in April after we moved to the country. We quickly added 3 chickens and a rooster. We have 1 Barred Plymouth Rock, 4...
