First off, I am not starting this thread to debate whether castration is right or wrong or to discuss the methods in which to do it. I do castrate some of mine so I can keep them longer in the herd to process for goat meat.
Here is my issue... this goat is different. I want to sell him as a...
Sorry the pics arent really clear. They are a bit skittish and the wire kept getting in the way. These are my only 2 out of the 25 or so chicks I got from the hatchery. I am hoping it is a pair but I doubt I was that lucky.
So what do you think?
I saved back my one silkie hen's eggs for over a week in case she went broody and low and behold, she did. Twenty some odd days later, I pick her up to find...
Her name is Winn and she hatched 5 out of 6 eggs.
I know it is silly but I am so proud of her!
We found this on the ground where several of our chickens hang out. I thought it was a rock but my husband was convinced it was an egg and he was right. I believe this is what they call a "fart egg" though I hate that name.
I got my new Sebbies from Tennessee Truely and they are as cute and sweet as they could be. There names are George & Martha. (My husband named them them after George and Martha Washingston.)
It took Martha a few minutes to warm up to the camera
George's sweet face
Arent they a perfect...
I ended up with too many Muscovy Hens and I need to clear some space for this years new arrivals. I am keeping 10 as breeding stock but my extra 5 hens need to go. They will be a year old this summer and have not laid yet. They are all Black & White pied like the picture.
But I would love some educated guesses! None are crowing or laying eggs. I dont know exactly when I got them but I am pretty sure it was in the summer.
I have 8 of them and honestly cant tell most of them apart. I am just hoping I have at least 1 rooster and at least 2 to 3 hens...
I put 7 eggs in my Little Giant Incubator. One was not fertile, 5 chicks hatched, 1 chick died within 24 hours & 1 egg didnt hatch. 48 hours after the others had hatched we opened up the remaining egg. The chick was dead. We did the sniff test with the egg before we opened it up with no smell...
I am new to incubating and the first 2 tries were failures but it looks like this time I will get a chick or two. There are 6 eggs in the bator and 5 have been cracked by the chick inside. Wooooo Hooooo!
Just thought I would share!
My uncle has alot of experience with chickens but I am just sure that "Henboy" is a pullet. She / He hangs out with my rooster and has never crowed and has no spurs. My uncle says that it is a cock because of the long neck, thick legs and large comb. Henboy is about 3 months old. I would love...
Strange situation. I bought 4 Muscovy ducklings off a local farmer and one turned out to be...
this girl. I am pretty sure she is not a mule. Anyone interested in trading? I would love another girl muscovy or even an extra drake for eating or ?. I live near Greeneville and might be willing to...
I found out my chicks have lice. I have seperated and treated the chicks with Sevin 5. Is it likely that my ducks have it? Can you treat ducks the same way? I would love to hear from someone really knowlegable about ducks. I really need to know if it is safe or even necessary to treat them. Thanks.
