Wondering if anyone else has had this experience. I had 6 eggs under a hen, today was day 17. Before going to work, about 1:30 I checked on her and found there was a completely hatched, fully formed, egg sac absorbed-but dead chick under her. And one of the other eggs had pipped a huge hole...
I apologize if this a redundant post, but...I started with 7 hens and when they were about 6 months old (mixed NHR and BA), integrated 9 (mixed variety) 3 and 1/2 month old hens with them with no major problems. Typical sorting of the pecking order. My neighbor then gave me 5 Red Sex Link hens...
Hoping someone can let me know their opinion. I'm sure the Polish and Brabanter (2nd picture in the back) are roos, but I'm wondering about the Americauna (1st pic). I'm taking the roos back to where I purchased them from in exchange for pullets of about the same age (about 3 1/2 months)...

Hi, I just joined BYC, even though I've been scouring the forums for the past month or so for info and advice on my new flock. I have 7 NH and 7 BA that are about 13 weeks old. And then I got a bigger coop, so what to do? Get more chicks of course! I purchased 9 more of 5 different breeds...
This is my first year raising chickens and I'm thinking of keeping a roo with my 15 hens. I have 7 now and am not sure which to keep if my hens decide to set on some eggs. The hens I have are New Hampshire, black australorp, Americauna, Deleware, Brabanter, Barred Rock, and Silver Laced...
