Hi. I have 3 broody hens right now and one of them have raised chicks before so I know she is a good mom. She is sitting on 8 eggs in a different coop (the good mom). Two other hens are broody and one won't go back to her eggs and they get cold. She will sit on air all day. We took her eggs away...
One of my california Whites seems egg bound so I soaked her in luke warm water with epson salt for 15 mins and then let her relax in our bathroom. 15 mins after the soak she laid only a yolk and big blood clot. Anyone else experiencer this?
Since this happened I have seen her lay two soft eggs...
I have a rooster whos dad was a frizzle. He has "normal" feathers. Can he produce frizzle babbies even though he isnt frizzled? Does the gene carry on like that?
Thanks,
Janel
We have a rooster that's 18 months old and slightly aggressive and unsafe for children to be around. We also have a hen around same age that hasn't laid a egg in a month. I want to cull them but I am having a hard time with it. First time having chickens and I am not sure how to handle this...
My chickens go crazy over these:
1. Rice
2. Bread
3. Zucchini- I throw it in there whole and they go nuts! Great use for all those extra zucchinis I grew this year!
4. dried meal worms
5. broken up hard boiled eggs!
What do your chickens love?
We currently have our feeder hanging off the ground by 4-5 inches and under cover in the run of the coop. Where do you keep your feeder? Inside the coop? I am wondering if we should move it
We have put pavers all around the outside of our coop. The are 8 inches wide. Do you think that is wide enough to avoid predators who dig? I have had a hard time finding more info about this.
Just put my 2 month old flock into coop. They are sleeping in the nesting boxes. What's the best way to block them from doing that? What do you use? There are two perches low and high. Plenty of room on the floor of coop. Any good ideas?
Hi y'all, we have 8 chicks and they are three weeks old. We are going to build a coop tomorrow. Any suggestions or pointers you would of liked when you started your first coop??? Thanks
