Coughing Rooster, Here is what I did to help until I can get the Vet

So, I have a Rooster named Fraulein, yes Fraulein because when we got her, ah Him, we thought he was a hen. Anyway, He was also born with a splayed leg which was not correctable by the time I got him. He is half the size of the other roosters so he lives happily with the goats in the goat barn...

HELP!!!" Fox Attack" Open Wound need advice!

I need a little help today. I had a fox jump on one of the turkeys while they were out ranging, and I was not far, -the fox is very bold-, (daytime too). Turkey got away after I gave chase to the fox, however, she has a open wound to her buttock and a patch of skin is missing about the size of a...

I've never tried hatching chicks before

Hi guys, I'm sure this has been written about before in the forums in the past, but i've never hatched any chicks before so my first question is; After you have your incubator and everything is set, do I just take freshly laid eggs from the coop and put them in?

    feeling a little blue

I culled one of our roosters this evening and I feel rather bad about it (moral issues). It was not a very nice rooster and it was somewhat of an agressive rooster too. I hope I did the right thing, I couldn't give it to anyone because of its behavior. I just don't feel good about it.

Do I need to build a pond if I get ducks?

Hi all! I've been wanting a couple ducks for a while now, but I've never had any before. Would I need to build a pond for them in the yard since there is no natural water in my area? What about duck housing and feed, I guess the whole nine yards. Do they get along with chickens too?

    Rooster wont stop crowing!!!

I got a call from my sister who lives in town stating her neighbor had a rooster and a hen to give away. I went down to see what kind of chickens they were and it was a bantam rooster and hen. Well I brought them home and put them in my holding pen -which is next to my chicken coop-, so they...

    MeatKings What breed are they?

Hi all! I bought 12 Meatking chicks from our local Co-op. I lost one of them around the one week mark, so now I have 11. I was wondering if anyone would know what breed is this "MeatKing"? I know they are growing three times faster than my baby leghorns, they look tiny in the little holding pen...

Dirty Turkeys is it safe to give them a bath?

Hi all, I was burning some old leftover wood from building the Turkey barn, and the turkeys (free range) got into the ashes the next day. What a mess, they look like pigeons rather than young turkeys. I felt so bad about not dumping the ashes first thing in the morning, chores children and...

    Baby Turkey wont eat!!!

Hi, I brought home two baby turkeys from the co-op this morning and one had no trouble getting into the water and feed, the other just sits in the straw and sleeps. I tried getting it to eat, but it wont even acknowledge the feed. Any thoughts or Ideas?
