I called Cackle Hatchery today for information regarding the 21 Black Astralorp Chicks I purchased in March of 2016. They all arrived in great shape, looked really good, and thrived through chick hood. I called them because the hens are all different sizes now. Some are very large, some...
I have a 7 month old Buff Orpington hen who is alive but very lethargic. After I found her lying on her side in the chicken yard I picked her up and checked her for injuries or mites or lice. She is alert, but can't walk.
Any ideas about what could be wrong with her? Does anyone suggest a...
Hi all,
My hens have all but stopped laying eggs. I used to get about 25-35 eggs per day, now only 4-5.
This has been going on for about 6 weeks. I thought if they were molting it only lasted about 2 weeks.
I've had these chickens for from 3 to 5 years. I don't have lice on them, they...
I'm worried about my chickens, they are covied up in the chicken house under the waterers.
I am keeping plenty of water in for them, and they have shade inside and outside, but man it is hot!!

I have 22 chicks (barred rock, buff orpington) 5 weeks old. They were raised in a coop inside the chicken house so the other grown chickens could see them. At what age would it be safe to put them in with the other chickens??
Thanks,
DonnaBelle
I am new to guinea fowl. I have 9 about 3 months old. There is one calling "stand back" stand back" but the others just "cackle" Wonder what I've got??
Thanks for any help/information on this puzzle!!

Hey all,
I just saw a really positive story on the Today show.
Now we'll have to wait in line forever to get our chicks!! LOL
Chickens named Maybeline and Oprah stole the show!!
The lady had 40 chickens and they all had names.

Hi all,
Can one of your guinea folks give me an idea about when to turn my 9 Guinea keets (about 3-4 weeks old, size of a bob white quail) loose to roam??
I do know to turn them loose 2-3 at a time. I just want them to come in the barn at night (where I'm giving them millet)
Thanks,
DonnaBelle
Hi all,
I'm new to Guineas. Two weeks ago we got nine keets and I'm not sure how old they were. They were feathered, and about 3 inches high.
They are now very feathered and about the size of Bob White quail. They are really perky, eating well.
I have them in the goat barn in a nice coop...
Hi all,
I have a 5 day withdrawal time for humans after dosing the goat with Valbazen (dewormer). Since we are still milking her and I hate to just throw the milk away, I'd like to give the lovely goat milk to my chickens.
Anyone have any experience with this issue??

We are raising about 1,000 quail. We have adequate space, plus flight pen. They are dying about 10 a day. All the dead ones legs have a red raw spot just above their foot, on the inside of the leg. This is our 3rd year of having quail, never had this happen before. They are being fed game...
Hi all,
I just made a lovely nest of chicken poo and shavings in a chicken wired private area in the corner of my chicken house. In this spot I have deposited 10,000 fly predators. IT'S A TEST.
I am hoping this works, flies are really bad this year.

Does anyone have an idea to keep, I guess the rooster, from pecking out the feathers on the hens backs? I haven't actually seen him do it, but I assume he is the culprit. The bare areas are just above the hen's tail feathers on their backs. Not all of them have the problem.
Short of...
Hi all,
A friend incubator hatched a few eggs I gave him and the chicks legs were not strong, several of the died. Does anyone know what might have caused this? I have gotten chicks from a hatchery and had a mother hen hatch out chicks, but have no experience with incubator chicks.
Any...
Hi all,
Order chickens from Cackle Hatchery in Lebanon, MO. Not too far from McIntosh County, Oklahoma. They were shipped yesterday (MONDAY, 5th) and did not arrive this morning.
I called them and they said they would be fine if they didn't arrive until Wednesday or even Thursday!!!
What...
I am writing this to rant about my darling husband who is really smart, a retired building contractor, who re-hung a heat lamp this morning in the chicken house. HE LOOPED AN EXTENSION CORD OVER A NAIL.
I didn't go down with him this am. Normally I am around if something is being done in...
Tonight when I went to lock up the flock, I notice one hen had dried poop in her butt feathers, and on closer inspection, others had been picking/pecking her bottom. It was red, and lots of poop balls.
So, with my DH's help we took her to the house, run warm water on her and got all the poop...
Hi, Just read a post about a swollen crop.
My question: Will chickens overeat, I thought I read somewhere that chickens won't overeat. Unlike horses who can/will founder.
