Clovis was my baby rooster. He was the one out of the 6 that I favored.
He's now 22 weeks old.
He's been doing that walking towards me flapping thing.
He was approaching Jeff out in the yard with intent the other day.
And today he went after my niece. He didn't flog her, but he pecked...
Back in April when I got my ducklings I had to get 6 chicks. So I picked up some bantams. I had no idea what I was getting, I just picked ones that were cute. I ended up with a japanese Banatam Roo. (he was killed by a dog sadly.) 1 black cochin pullet, and 2 sebrights.
They are Goldy.
And...
Clovis is driving me nuts. It is almost 2 am and he was out there crowing his fool head off!!!
I had to go out and give him a lecture. He was not pleased... but I doubt my neighbors are either. He's quiet now.
Any ideas why a rooster would crow at all hours?
He crows ALL day long too. He...
I couldn't understand why my ducks were in their house. Normally they are out and about. I pulled their house away from their pen so they could go play. Then I heard it. A Hawk was in the yard, and it was wanting them for lunch! Back into the house they went.
I have a runner and a call duck that free range in my yard all day long. They never leave the yard. I have a huge row of hedges that they like to hang out in. When it's hot, or if they feel threatened they go to the hedges.
For reference, my yard is just shy of an acre.
I don't clip my call...
Hi, this is a total shot in the dark, but I'll ask anyway.
An old friend of mine, actually she is a former boss lives in Lakeland Florida. Her name is Nancy.
She and her hubby retired there a couple years ago. There is a pond in the community where they live. I imagine all the homes are up...
I was out taking pictures and video of my ducks playing in fresh water when I heard one of my EE girls doing the egg song. I wasn't very close to the coop, but you can still clearly hear it. Oh, and she stopped doing it almost as suddenly as she started... so this was all I got...
I think it's time to add more shavings to my coop.
My question is this...
Is it ok to ad lime on top of the old stuff before adding new? Also would it be ok to sprinkle some lime out in the run?
I was just outside changing over their pond water. AKA Bail and refill. After the water was back to normal level Ling lIng got out and preened for a bit. Then she dabbled in the over flow. Whe whole time Flake was in the water watching her. THen Ling Ling got back in the water, and Flake mated...
I had to make dog treats for a fundraiser my rescue was at this weekend.
I've never made dog treats before, and I have to say they were a total success! My dogs LOVE them so I figured I would share the recipe here.
Baking time is kind of long as I prefer to dry them out so they last longer...
Hi I have a fawn & white runner duck who lost her buddy.
I am trying to find a male, or a pair.
I'm not too picky about colors except that I would prefer not to get another fawn & white.
Thanks!
A little Back story.
I got 2 Runner ducklings. They of course were totally bonded.
Ling ling is now almost 16 weeks. Cinder was killed by the neighbor's dog last month.
Ling Ling has not been right since. She started calling for Cinder right away. And, even though I got a little call duck to...
Hi All. Still in my first year with my flock.
I have a couple questions.
I've been told you should dust your birds 2 times a year for lice.
When should I do this, and how? Does it affect the laying birds/eggs at all?
Also worming, When, how often, and how should I do it?
Thanks much!
I'm making a sign for someone with a Mottled Java hen on it.
What color are the legs, and beak on a Mottled Java hen?
THANKS!!!
And if you want to see it, I'll post a pic of the sign after I paint in the hen.
