I made a quail cage with a ramp so they can go from one level to the other..
They don't really seem to be getting the hang of it yet..
Is there some specific angle and spacing of the rungs there should be?
I'm not sure if I'll get a response in time...
I'm hatching some coturnix quail right now and they started pipping around midnight last night. It's 9am now. The first one I noticed had pipped is still not out. It's just that same little pip it had last night.
I'll give it some more time...
One of the 2 month old chickens I put down in the main coop with the others is not looking so great today.
I believe she's an Easter Egger? or maybe a mix with one... she has greenish legs.
She doesn't seem to have suffered any injury but she's all puffed up and just wants to close her...
I have a few hens which had all their back feathers ripped out by an extra ornery rooster.
I got rid of the rooster in the spring but it's been months now and the feathers don't seems to be growing back yet.
Is there some way to speed things along?
Will they have new growth before the winter?
My one 5 week old chick who survived the crow attack sadly did not escape unscathed.
It has a pretty nasty looking pecking wound. It probably needs stitches but of course it's Saturday so the earliest we could go to the vet is monday. Coincidentally I already have an appointment for my dog...
I put my favorite of my incubator hatch a month ago down in the coop last night feeling like they were about ready to join the other 4 year old hens in my flock.
They were 5 weeks old.
I left them down there this morning for only 2 hours and when I came back crows were just leaving the scene...
I just did a round in the incubator and had about a 50% success rate.
Before I thow out the eggs that didn't hatch is there even a remote chance to manually hatch the eggs that didn't pip myself?
Like if I were to crack the eggs open and delicately open them is there a chance there might be...
I have about 30 eggs in the hovabator and it's supposed to be hatch day today.
I had one chick hatch early yesterday. today there are a few more pipped but they seem to be taking their time getting going.
What is the normal amount of time it should take a chick to hatch from the time it...
Can anyone tell me what might be wrong with this chick and how to nurse her back to health?
It doesn't seem like the same kind of probable respiratory problem the last one had..
(video further down the thread now)
My chicks are 3 weeks old now.
There is one who i just noticed recently is really shakey.
Walking around with her legs splayed.. seeming very dizzy or something. falling over now and then..
I've taken her out from the rest and in doing so inspected her vent which seemed possibly pasted...
this little boy is not feeling very well.
He has very little energy to do much but just stand there and he kind of seems like he wants to heave.
He's about 2 and a half weeks old now. He's been living outside with 20 others in a makeshift 4 x 8 run with a cardboard box coop with a heat...
I recently incubated a bunch of eggs.
There is one chick who was born premature who seemed the worse off but has been barely hanging in.
Doing our best to nurse it back to health but noticed yesterday that it was pasted over. So I quickly cleaned it up but am worried I was too late.
The...
I have a few dozen eggs in my new Hovabator. I'm on day 19 now and already seeing and hearing the first signs of life.
The first pip came through on the first egg. it had cracked through the shell and was peeping from inside.
I left for the day looking forward to coming home and finding...
