What is the most humane way of killing a chicken?

I think my he may be a she

I have 5 silkie chickens together and I really thought 2 were roosters, they are about 8 months old. Today I collected 4 eggs. I checked the coop at 6 last night (no eggs) and by 9 this morning I had 4. Is it possible that they can lay 2 within a 12 hour range?
