Snickerdoodle can't figure out this egg-laying thing!

Snickerdoodle is a beautiful black/iridescent Ameraucana, 11-month old hen. She started laying beautiful bluish/greenish eggs around 6 months. For the last few months though, something is not right. Some days it is a thin-shelled egg. Sometimes it's so thin that cracks in an almost powdery way...

Molting, Pecking, Lice, and/or Something Else?

Hey everyone, this is Dumpling. She is a bit of a loner. Doesn't really hang out with the other chickens, and gets bullied by Hennifer, the queen of our flock. I noticed in the last couple of months she was looking rough. Lost a bunch of feathers on the back of her head/neck and along her...

Ruptured Air Sac, Compacted Crop or Something Else?

Came home to a pasty bum on my sweet little 4-day-old chick. Then noticed a small air bubble on the back of her neck by her wing. It has grown in the last hour so it's now visible from the front, I think it's a ruptured air sac and so am I supposed to poke it with a sterile needle and hope it...

HELP!!! Had to help and now baby has a big sac of water/blood under her skin

We had a hen outside hatching chicks. Most hatched yesterday and when we went in to check today, this baby was partially out of her shell and had been abandoned. We brought her inside and turned the bathroom into a giant hot/humid incubator and helped her out of the last part of her shell. It...

    Who are you Dr Bokchoy?

We have a mystery chick. Rooster was a Brown Leghorn, and we think mother could be a Rhode Island Red or this unknown hen who is all white with black random spots. Anyone know who Dr Bokchoy might be?

    Baby Chick (breed) Question

I have 4 new baby chicks and a bunch more on the way. They all look the same so far although I swear they came from different breeds of mothers. Is it possible that they would all look the same? Will a roo's genes dominate?

    Candling: Didn't make it

First timer here. We set 15 eggs. Yesterday was Day 13 and we candled. One was completely empty. This one I wasn't sure of. I saw an eye, but not much else. We decided it was gone, cracked it open and yes. It had started growing but had died. We still have 13 thriving (we think)! I have another...

Today is the first day we found eggs! We thought this morning the 2 eggs we found were from Squeak (Bantam Frizzle Cochin) and maybe Camilla (Orpington), but I suspected maybe they were both from Squeak. But wait, there's more! I saw Felix (Rhode Island Red) in the box, and we just found...
