Hi
I have 2 girls and am not sure of their breed.
can you help me?
the ones that I am unsure about is the grey penciled one with the fluffy legs whom we call 'big boots'.
male or female this bird is the sweetest babe we have.
She came out of a batch of Wyandottes, so im assuming she is a...
I am very stupid at times.
My top coop always gets flooded. So I put in a basic drainage system.
I move all the girls down garden to the bigger coop until the water has drained from the top. Bottom coop never gets flooded.
I have NEVER even thought of sand.
Where I live in the UK we suffer...
I had a 3 week old chick. a Sussex and I have never seen anything like this.
I had spent many a day say in the garden just watching him and his 'crew' getting some fresh air on a lovely warm day. I started to get worried when he wasn't shaping up like that others. I thought maybe it was our big...
Hello everyone!
I've been searching around and cant seem to find the kind of roo I'm after.
We have a Road Runner Roo (polish/silkie cross) who doesn't crow, he has a permanent sore throat. its more of a loud cough than a crow. My Wyandotte's make more noise than him, but he is gorgeous and...
I've heard of people keeping their birds inside but I haven't a clue how you go about doing this?
My Husband wouldn't allow me to do it, but for those of you who do... how do you?
(inside as in your house)
My Husband has decided that every little chic we have (6 - weeks plus) that has the smallest of combs is a male and have to be put down NOW.
I don't want to put them down in case he is wrong! (and the thought of it makes me feel just disgusting. they will be given away not having their heads...
I'm stumped.
I didn't write down what the batch was (stupidly) and now I have no idea what these 2 birds are!
Have a look, see what you think.
They are Salt & Peppa:
Well our Wyandotte has gone into broodiness again.
But that's not the problem, our other 'big girl' who resides with the GLW a buff Sussex is loosing her feathers!
Now I know its only June & we live in the UK the weather isn't particular warm at the moment.
So maybe its that?
It doesn't look...
Hi everyone!
Bit of a crisis these last few days: husband has decided it's me or the chickens!
He has even packed his bag!
I can't believe someone could be so cruel :(
Anything like this happened to anyone else?
My little blue silkie (7 days old) seems to be loosing his/her end wing feathers. They are almost skeletal!
Any ideas? are they being plucked or is this just normal.... everything else is perfect, even a little Mohawk appearing on its head!
This little sweetheart I rescued from a barn clear-out. I love her markings but Im unsure what mix she is.
the photos are of her at 5 days old.
she is a flighty little thing with a very pretty chirrup and not a full blown cheep like my silkies, she has white fluff on her legs and her legs are...
Hi!
I was very bored this morning and so I chased around my local county council (Worcestershire) for guidelines on keeping poultry.
Here's what I found - might be useful information especially from DEFRA. Most of the information I found is exactly the same as every Council in the UK.
OH, and...
Hi all!
I've had my Sussex and Wyandotte for 36 weeks. I got them when they were 21 weeks from a poultry farm (lots and lots of big pens full of chickens)
at first I could understand their nervousness. But over time I have gone through countless food bowls, water feeders, brand of food, even...
Has anyone used a heat pad in a brooder?
is it advisable to/not to use one?
just a quick question that's been bothering me for a few hours.
What to you think/advise?
Hello!
I purchased my first batch of eggs around 36 days ago. they were white silkies.
the breeder I got them from seemed to know what he was doing BUT alarm bells should have started ringing when he avoided me looking at his farm, but being so excited (and broken down on the motorway on the...
I started with just the instructions that came with the inbubator but then on the second side it says what the humitity should be.( I dont haveva hydrometer on the jeoel)
So I buy a hydrometer and temo gauge off ebay and the temp gauge (as on intrucsions 38○c byt the temo inside the unit says...
