My own stupidity on the matter.

I am very stupid at times. My top coop always gets flooded. So I put in a basic drainage system. I move all the girls down garden to the bigger coop until the water has drained from the top. Bottom coop never gets flooded. I have NEVER even thought of sand. Where I live in the UK we suffer...

Protruding breast bone, no growth etc...

I had a 3 week old chick. a Sussex and I have never seen anything like this. I had spent many a day say in the garden just watching him and his 'crew' getting some fresh air on a lovely warm day. I started to get worried when he wasn't shaping up like that others. I thought maybe it was our big...

    Beautiful Plumage

Hello everyone! I've been searching around and cant seem to find the kind of roo I'm after. We have a Road Runner Roo (polish/silkie cross) who doesn't crow, he has a permanent sore throat. its more of a loud cough than a crow. My Wyandotte's make more noise than him, but he is gorgeous and...

    Tiny combs on little chicks.

My Husband has decided that every little chic we have (6 - weeks plus) that has the smallest of combs is a male and have to be put down NOW. I don't want to put them down in case he is wrong! (and the thought of it makes me feel just disgusting. they will be given away not having their heads...

    Strange 'big hen' feather behaviour

Well our Wyandotte has gone into broodiness again. But that's not the problem, our other 'big girl' who resides with the GLW a buff Sussex is loosing her feathers! Now I know its only June & we live in the UK the weather isn't particular warm at the moment. So maybe its that? It doesn't look...

    UK Poultry Guidelines

Hi! I was very bored this morning and so I chased around my local county council (Worcestershire) for guidelines on keeping poultry. Here's what I found - might be useful information especially from DEFRA. Most of the information I found is exactly the same as every Council in the UK. OH, and...

    Non-exploring hens.

Hi all! I've had my Sussex and Wyandotte for 36 weeks. I got them when they were 21 weeks from a poultry farm (lots and lots of big pens full of chickens) at first I could understand their nervousness. But over time I have gone through countless food bowls, water feeders, brand of food, even...
