In June/July of 2015 most of my flock suddenly stopped laying. At this time it was no where close to the normal Fall time drop in Egg Production I'm used to. The girls were at the following ages back in June 2015:

From spring to fall last year I spent countless hours just watching them. I noticed a few of my Leghorn hens would not run, not walk, but skip when they were happy. I assume happy is the right emotion... Usually they were "happy" after getting treats or stealing food from their sisters. Anyone...
I have a dozen layers and live in the city. We are not allowed to have roosters due to noise ordinance. However, we do have hawks that have tried to attack our hens. Is there a good alternative when it comes to the protection a rooster provides the flock?

I have read that some tests show that DE (diatomaceous earth) "can be Carcinogenic to humans". Wouldn't that mean it would be equally dangerous to chickens who have sensitive respiratory stems?
I picked up a couple hens from someone who couldn't care for them any longer. The Americana hen has missing feathers on her back (possibly from a rooster?). And also missing feathers with what appears to be exposed/missing skin on her neck. I am very much a beginner when it comes to chickens...
