My girls are about 17.5 weeks and they are starting to lay. I have 7 girls and one rooster. I got our first egg on Sunday, which was a good egg with a nice shell. Yesterday and this morning I have gotten 4 soft shell eggs. I feed out of a five gallon bucket and still had some grower left so I...
One of our 7 hens had a surprise for us when we got home today from a weekend of camping. We got our first egg!! Such a proud Chicken mom moment! Lol The girls are about 17 weeks old. Since being home we have had 2 more eggs, one that was really soft. I went down to the feed store and bought...
Well...now that my chicks are approx 5 weeks old, I think I have a cute little roo. Anyone agree or think he may be a she. If I do have a roo...I have no idea what I will end up doing with him.
Hello. Tonight will be my girls 3rd night in their coop, locked inside. Do I need to block off the nesting boxes til they get older or is it OK for them to sleep in at 5 weeks? Right now my coop consists of stall dry on the bottom with straw in the boxes. Along with a roosting stick.

Hello. I am wanting to tell my chicks apart and am curious what works best...Velcro cable ties or zip ties. Or does something completely different work better. Thanks in advance!
My chicks are about 5 weeks and we decided tonight was the night to put them in their coop. I am sure I will be checking them often throughout the night!
I have to say.. My hubby outdid my expectations for the coop. The outside is done now just a few modifications that I have seen on BYC to do to the inside.
I am very new to chickens and when I got my 8 from the feed store they said I should have all hens. Well this little OK big chick is bigger than my others and is the boss of the brooder. Any guesses?
Before I found this very helpful site, I was told that I only needed to do one small bag of Purina medicated feed and then switch over to non medicated. My chicks are approx 14 days old and I switched them last night. Should have I continued medicated longer? Or am I OK with the new feed change?
Hello. I am new to BYC and am a first time chicken farmer. I have 8 - 3 week old chicks. My hubby is building an amazing coop and my 8 year old is so excited to start this new farm adventure. I look forward to learning lots from this site. :)
