I'm getting there... I have three cream lavender columbians to cross with a mottled lavender and my F2 mf/lav cross rooster.
I really need to get some new blood in there and would love to swap eggs with someone.
Anyone?
The last two chicks I've had hatch (from eggs bought off eBay) the chicks legs are angled up towards their heads, toes curled up and useless. It's not splayed legs - they don't go off to the side. Any advice???
I have to admit I am stumped on this one. I hatched eggs from 2 pens - pen #1 is all mille fleur cochins and pen #2 contains the offspring from mille x lavender. My goal for pen #2 is to end up with porcelain... but the chances are roughly 1 in 256, so not great odds at all. This chick HAS to...
I know you're supposed to wait, but what if you're out of things to eat and don't feel like going to the grocery store? Looks like our big cochin roo is on the menu tonight.
He'll be butchered around 4 o'clock this afternoon... we'd like to eat before 8 or 9 if possible, lol.
Any suggestions?
I just had my (big) speckled sussex rooster and a full grown runner duck taken during the day yesterday. No prints or anything. I can see several areas with feathers where it looks like the rooster got loose and was caught again. Whatever it was went back into the woods to eat.
And ideas what...
My sisters horse just foaled early this morning and something is wrong with the foals back legs -- he is healthy otherwise. There is a possibility he'll have to be put down. Can y'all pray for a good outcome?
Thank you
brown red x blue partridge = blue patterned gold-necked/birchen.... is this the same as lemon blue?
Also, what is lemon pyle? is that the gold on white (splash I guess?)
i swear I always have a million questions about color genetics and then once I think i have it figure out I think of a new...
One of the things I love about BYC is how supportive everyone is. Unfortunately, now I'm the one who needs it.
I'm having back surgery tomorrow to cut away the part of a ruptured disc that is impinging on a nerve. It's a pretty 'easy' surgery
and only takes about 45 minutes at an outpatient...
These are supposed to be runners but their beaks don't look like runners... do they get the long beaks later? Also, they're supposed to be trout colored but I thought trout have eyestripes as ducklings. Any idea on what color they might be? The feet are kind of gray and their beaks have some...
I had 3 runners hatch yesterday and I have such a hard time putting them back in their brooder! All 3 napped with me today nestled in my hair and a bamboo velour blanket -- nice and toasty warm. They are the most precious little things ever. My first ducklings and I'm in
So I finally ordered some duck eggs off ebay. I decided on 'Trout' (mallard colored) Runner ducks.
Almost every time I've ordered shipped eggs I only have about half develop... I think the P.O. here is super rough on them.
I only need 3 or 4 ducks (mosquito larvae control on small pond)...
This auction is for 12++ hatching eggs from my Mille Fleur Bantam Cochin pen. Along with the milles there is one GORGEOUS mottled rooster in there to add type and also two lavender hens. The lavenders are a start on a porcelain project. If you get black chicks from the hatch, breed them...
...and she does NOT want to stay by herself outside. The (older) chicks are in a hutch in the backyard and I tried to leave her out there with them and she just cried and cried. I brought her in. She is the best little pup I have EVER had. She stays right by me when I'm walking and if I stop...
We just bought a new piece of land and have a (shallow) pond on it that seems to stay wet pretty much year round. I can already forsee major mosquito problems -- the number of larvae swimming around in there is insane!
So... I told DH we need ducks, lol. Will they go into their house to be...
I'm looking for a LGD puppy. I do not want a Great Pyrenees - the weather here is just too hot and I don't want to have to deal with mats, etc. when they shed out. Any of the other breeds with short/med. hair are fine.
