We have 5 hens-all who are starting to lose (or have lost) their feathers on their back and around their vents. We have checked for mites and lice-don't see any sign of either. They dust bathe regularly, we use DE in the coop and run. Now their egg production has slowed dramatically. Or so we...
It may be too soon to tell but these are two and a half week old Easter Eggers and I've read a lot about feather patters of Easter Eggers. Anyone have any guesses if we have roosters or hens? Thanks.
Hello,
Our hen has a squishy swollen breast and very red bottom (looks like feather picking but not sure). She is also fairly bare near her tail. She has been drinking a ton of water all morning and is behaving like a normal hen, with her flock, eating and scratching around. Please see below...
Hi,
We have 5 hens and three of them have what sort of looks like a "moldy" grayish color on the tips of their tail feathers. Any ideas on what this could be? We are new to hens. They are 15 weeks old. We clean the coop and run weekly and they dust bathe regularly...reading and reading but...
Hi,
This is a Orpington-we can't tell if she's being picked on (observe them a lot and don't see anything out of the ordinary) or if perhaps she is a he? Going on 5 weeks old. Concerned about feathers and if there's an underlying problem. Any information is appreciated. Also, are those...
Hi,
We have 4 chicks-hatch date 4/16. 2 Orpingtons, an Australorp and a Cochin. We are debating the 5th and final-a Red Star but have to order from Murray McMurray and she will be shipped this week.
Our flock seems very peaceful and calm these days. Wound up with a rooster and had to...
Hi,
We are new to chickens and were told we have a 95% chance they are hens. However, one of the chicks has a comb developing a lot faster than the others (all the same age, 2 weeks and two days). They are Buff Orpingtons. The one we think could be a rooster is definitely the most...
Hi,
I got three Buff Orps Thurs (hatched Wed). I got an Australorp today (hatched Wed). Introductions are ok-the Orps are picking at her and pulling at her wings. Seems to have settled down a bit (she is eating with them) but I'm a worrier.....also looks like a little blood was drawn. Any...
Morning,
We have (3) two day old Buff Orps and will let them free range a few hours a day. Because of their size (eventually) what size coop and run should I be looking for? Should the coop be for 4-6 chickens or is 2-4 size chickens ok? Thanks a ton.
