I've got home bred baby buttons !!!!!
It's so cool.
Several members said to not incubate the first weeks worth of eggs laid. They were right
I had 20 eggs the first week and 20 the second. I couldn't resist and popped all 40 in the bator together. They were all clearly dated.
First week...
Maybe I need to have the water tested.
I posted a few days ago about my coturnix being predominately roos.

Well just now I decided to seperate out my next batch of teen buttons.
Had 7 out of 8 hatch and guess what ? ...
Well I decided to seperate out the coturnix with the plan being to set up 2 or 3 breeding groups. So I start picking out the jumbos ...... ok, roo, roo, roo, roo 8 jumbos, 7 are roos
Ok change of plan. 7 roos now "growing" for one or two more weeks. The largest will get a girlfriend. The...
I've been brooding some buttons and coturnix together that hatched 7-25-09 and decided today was move out day for the giant coturnix.
They've gone outside to new quarters and seem very happy.
However the poor buttons are missing their big buddies.
It's very sad , they are standing around and...
Can A & M coturnix have a few colored feathers or are they always solid white ?
I'm new to these guys and have a couple of youngsters which are 96% + white with a couple of brown/black feathers coming in.
Are they poorly marked A&M's or poorly marked tux's or something else ?
They are cute...
I've some young adult buttons hatched 6-9-09.
Today I got my first eggs
2 tiny eggs. 1 each from two groups.
I cann't beleive it , they are only 7 weeks old.
They must be happy buttons
Now the tough decision ................... do I incubate them ........
Apparently you have the early hatch coturnix
My first ones from you hatched a couple of days earlier than expected.
The second set of freebie extras you sent me with the buttons are hatching right now with the buttons .
Silly quail.
They are so full of suprizes.
Looks like I'll finally be...
Well the button clan has had some 'growlers' for about 10 days or so .
They are 5 1/2 to 6 weeks old.
Yesterday was the big upheaval day and a few select males got to be seperated and have their own girls .
The remaining boys are in the 'bachelor' pen for observation that I've sexed them...
Just wondering if newly hatched BQ's & CQ's are ok to go in the brooder together ?
How long can they be together in shared quarters if that's ok ?
Was expecting a button hatch yesterday and coturnix in a few days but we've 1 of each flopping around the 'bator right now just minutes old
As if buttons weren't fun enough , today I got to watch one dance.
One of my roos was all stretched out calling away when another stretched out his wings, dipped down his head and started bouncing all around. I know it really was a courtship dance but it sure was fun to watch
I had no idea...
Here are some buttons that hatched 7-13 & 7-14.
7 out of 8 eggs hatched
Any thoughts on colors ?
I'm really curious about the dark one. It's almost black with faint chocolate stripes. The funny thing is it has a necklace ! Well almost .... there is a yellow throat marking that looks like a...

Is an all wire cage ok for buttons ?
I'm looking for something easier to clean with less chances of wild button boinking
Seems like a slide out tray system would be much cleaner.
If it's ok then what flooring wire size is most suited to them ?
Thanks
Well I thought I'd give it a try and switch the buttons to a water bottle for drinking.
First button reaction............... oh my.... WHAT is that ???? With buttons piled in a clump as far away from bottle as possable
A few got brave and started to approach ........... arrghhh ...
Here's my group of EE's . Now 10 plus weeks old.
I've not had any crowing but from the start suspected "Nod" was a roo ( bossy, thick legs, wings crossed over back as a chick ) .
However I'm not convinced and wonder if maybe it's an 'amazon' girl.
"Scratchie" now is looking roo-ish from other...
Well it seems like buttons are 'popcorn on speed' when you try to photograph them.
Any suggestions on how to get decent photos without putting the little spazzies in a vise grip ?
I'd prefer to get some nice standing side and or front views if possable.
How soon can you tell with baby buttons if they are the curly ones ?
My first group (7) are nine days old and getting their feathers. One is either having a bad feather day or maybe is a curly
Looks like it has tiny wings sticking up above it's real wings in the shoulder area. ( how's that...
What type of substrate do you recommend for raising buttons ?
I currently have them on the non-skid rubber drawer liner material. First batch are 6 days old, second batch are 3 days old.
Then I have another problem ............
I cann't stop watching the babies
Some-one should have warned...
There I was thinking I could pack up one bator when I got home as there were just 5 remaining quail eggs that I'd given an extra few days to in it .
WRONG !!!!
DH saw what fun I had with the button quail and thought I'd like to incubate chickens . So without even thinking to ask me he came home...
