Apologies if this has already been posted. I did a search, and nothing about it came up.
Here's the story from a local news station: http://wkrn.com/2017/12/11/family-poultry-farm-destroyed-by-fire/
We finally got our first Welsummer eggs yesterday. We got our Welsummer chicks last April, and they both laid their first egg on the same day. Nice to have the dark eggs to go along with all the other colors. The "freckling" adds a nice touch, too.
We are still waiting for the Barnevelders...
This is The MAN Thread! We will be talking about things that MEN like - MANLY sports like FOOTBALL, and GUNS, and EXPLOSIONS! We will be LOUD and OBNOXIOUS and SMELLY - and not be ashamed of it!
NOW, let ME start!
OMG!!! I'M FINALLLLLY GETTING BANTIES!!!! I CAN'T WAIT!!!! SQUUEEEEeeeee!!!!
Anyone else notice egg production starting to pick up? I'm noticing a few more eggs in the nests each day. My 21 hens have been laying terrible all winter. Of course, over the last few months I had some that moulted, one went broody, and some that were born early last year had never started...
Just curious as to what others plan on adding to their flock for the upcoming year. We are adding only a few chickens this year to go with our current 26. Of those, we have about 16 different breeds.
We are getting turkeys for the first time.
I've already got an order in for:
Chickens:
3...
What do you mainly consider your birds to be? Do you have chickens primarily as pets, or do you have them mainly for eggs and/or meat? If you consider them mainly as pets, then would you still have them if they didn't lay eggs and/or provide meat?
Just thought I'd post a couple of pics of our new puppy "Bandit". He is an Australian Cattle Dog (aka Blue Heeler). I've wanted this breed for a long time, and couldn't be more excited about this little guy.
For those that have chicks (or eggs) ordered, what's on your order? Where are you getting them?
Here is my current order, all from a local supplier:
03/26 order:
Silver-gray Dorkings 2 pullets
Welsummers 2 pullets
Brown Leghorns 2 pullets
Russian Orloff 2 pullets...
A lot of people come to this site to learn about chickens before they decide to try and raise them. Most of us love our chickens and want to paint a positive picture and encourage others to raise and love them like we do. However, there are some things that may get over looked - the negatives...
I was reading another thread where a couple of posters stated that chickens should only be allowed to free range while under supervision. I was curious if this is the view held by others here.
Personally, my birds free range all day while I'm at work. I understand that there is a chance for...
From a local Craigslist ad. And I thought $9 for my Barnevelder chicks was a lot. These are 10 times that.
"Pure Lemon Cuckoo Orpington chicks available in June.
$89.00 per chick - taking orders"
Just wanted folks to list some differences between schools in the city, and those in the country. When I was in school, I went to what would be considered a "city school". We live in a rural area now, and my son goes to a very small country school (preK - 8th with about 300 students). Let's...
I was just reading the thread about women hunters here on BYC when my wife sent me the link below.
Are you a woman who enjoys hunting, but wants to keep that feminine look? Then this is for you!

So, there was a pretty active thread a few weeks ago asking the best method to get rid of moles. Lots of suggestions, a few home remedies, and a few crazy ideas.
I've had trouble with moles since we moved into our home 4.5 years ago. They are always destroying the yard in the same areas...
Just thought it would be neat to see what other languages everyone speaks - other than English, of course.
I took three years of French in high school - which was nearly 20 years ago. I haven't kept up with it since then.
I've self-taught Russian. I can read and speak it at a beginner level...
We had a nice warm weekend here Saturday. So, we got the ducklings out for a swim.
Here are the Cayugas- about 3.5 weeks old.
Here are our newest additions. The yellow one is a fawn and white runner from Ideal. The brownish one is a Khaki Campbell from TSC. And, the striped one is a...
