So I got these from the feed store in the rainbow pullet pen. They look like splash to me, they have bright florescent blue ears. They are a smaller chicken but not a bantam. They lay very pale brown/cream colored eggs- but not white. They can FLY like nobody's business. Very friendly.
I posted pics on facebook and the consensus is roos. I had three but one got taken by a hawk. Would be just my luck if that one was the only female:( What do you all think?
My chick is 5 weeks old, I have no idea what kind it is. Got it from the rainbow pullet bin (Meyer hatchery) at my local feed store. It loves to climb on me, let me pet it, and flies to the highest point it can get to. In my past experience, this is typical of ALL of my past roosters. Any...
Hi everyone, I got 5 chicks from the feed store for my broody yesterday. They are from MacMurray- I got 2 light brahmas, one EE. The other two I grabbed because I love blue chickens. I thought they might be lavender orpingtons, but the experts on the boards said no. They are very knowledgeable...
I have a wyandotte with a lot of "white" in the corner of his eye (ended up being a rooster:() I just got a blue ameracuna hen that looks similar. The wyandotte was from a hatchery and the ameracauna is from a farm down the road. They just look different from all my other chickens eyes, so I...
I am getting 2 ameracaunas next week. I am going to pick them up from a feed store. I would LOVE blue ones. Does anyone know what they would look like as chicks? I can pick from all of the ameracaunas......
Considering getting some lavender orpington chicks in the spring. Has anyone gotten them from meyer hatchery? Would I be smart to find someone locally who breeds them instead?
Hello everyone, I was walking in my driveway Sunday and looked at my lilies. I saw three eggs under them in a nest! So I asked my chicken friends what to do (my ladies free range from sun up to sun down) to make sure they started to lay in the nest boxes. She suggested locking them in the coop...
So this chicken is unlike my buff girls. She is IMPOSSIBLE to catch or pick up. She runs up to the other ones and sticks her head up high and her chest out to them, almost challenging them. And today.....TODAY she tried to crow. TWICE. Stood up very tall and tried to crow. It was very faint, but...
Hello everyone! After our online coop disaster, we just bought the plans for the Wichita cabin coop. We are going to enlarge it to accommodate 7-8 birds. If anyone has built one and has any advice to share, I'd appreciate it. Thanks! I will do a step by step with pics!
So I moved my chicks (4 weeks old) out to their coop today. We still have the premier 1 heat plate in there. It says a low of 24 tonite:( They have been in a 40-50 degree garage since we got them and I take them out for at least an hour a day no matter how cold.
I am SO sick of this weather...
HI everyone! We have 6 buff orpington chicks- they are three weeks old. I have a premier one heat plate. When I went to buy some stuff at the feed store, they had one barred rock that had been returned by the owner because she had taken one with a broken leg and this one wouldn't leave it alone...
I KNOW there are different schools of though on how early you can spot a rooster. But I've got two buffs with baby wings, and no tail feathers. All four others have long wings and tail feathers. What do you think? The place I got them guarantees sex, and told me I could bring them back, but...
Kids ran upstairs this morning saying one of the 2 week old chicks was laying on it's side not moving. I picked it up and was sure it was dead. Then it moved a little. I took it upstairs and ran it's butt under warm water (pasty butt.) We put it in a towel, blow dried it, kept it warm. It pooped...
Hi! Setting up the brooder coop! So I put down newspaper for now, I have large shavings after the possibility of splayed legs is over. But WHAT should I put under the plate for them to lay on?
So I knew after I started looking around here that the coop that I ordered wasn't going to be sufficient. And it's not. It arrived mangled and broken and there is no way I would keep 6 full size chickens in there permanently. So what I have now is an expensive brooder....
My husband set it up...
