Pretty sure I just treated an imaginary infestation.

Sooo, a couple of days ago one of my young pullet’s combs became paler than normal. I looked up reasons for this and one of them was a lice or mite infestation which I haven’t had a problem with in years. So I checked and although I didn’t see anything moving, I did see some tan colored dust...

    Gender guessing game!

Hey all, I got some Colombian Rock x RIR straight run chicks from the local co-op this year. I think quite a few of them are pullets, but would appreciate everyone’s opinions as to gender.

TN Nankin or Mille Fleur D’Uccle Breeder??

Looking for a breeder based in or around Middle Tennessee who would sell either Mille fleur D’Uccle orNankin hatching eggs. Found on incredible breeder in my town no less, but she only sells started birds and I need some eggs to go under a broody. I’d like them to be from show lines.

    Star Wars Hatch Along

So, someone on a FB group was saying they just put Star Wars silkies in the incubator. I said what are Star Wars silkies? Mottled? Spangled? Uh NO! They are Silkies that are due to hatch on May the 4th. Welp, I’ve got 21 eggs that I set today! 6 Silverudds Blue and 15 opal legbars! Who wants to...

    Thoughts?

So, I have the opportunity to get some very rare eggs from a breed I luuuuuuuuuuurve for a very good price. The caveat; the seller told me that he's been having some issues with chick mortality. He's NPIP/AI clean, he was honest so I am a lot more confident going forward. I just want to hear...

    SS x GLW

I have a headache from reading the color genetics thread already and I haven’t even gotten to anything mentioning a Speckled Sussex yet. Is their speckling a dilution of the lacing gene? I’m hatching a few of these crosses out from my flock (first egg internally pipped this morning!) and I am...

    Would you call this frizzle?

One of my hatchery cuckoo Marans is feathering out in the CUTEST way. She’s got a terrible hair day every day. Would you call this frizzle? And is so and If this ends up sticking, would anyone be interested in dark egg laying frizzles? I’m calling her Miss Frizzle for now. ;)

    Half my batch is gone

So, I’m hatching eggs from pullets that are close to a year old. Could their age be affecting the outcome for the incubation?

    Columbian Rock Questions

So I have six of the cutest little things in my brooder. Got a straight run of them from the farmers co-op. My guestion is, do the males feather out differently that the females in a noticeable way before their initial molt? I have just noticed that two of the bolder chicks have some grey...

    NPIP testing tomorrow!

So I am having my flock tested by the state vet to get my certification tomorrow! I was wondering if anyone else has experience with this in TN. I cleaned my coop a little bit extra etc cause I don’t know what all they will be looking at. Does anyone have any pointers for me? Thanks!!

    Calling all enablers!!

:D:DHeading to the farmers co op. Just read that they have cuckoo Marans and Colombian rock. Also just put six eggs in the bator. 3 olive eggers (americauna x SS) 2 gold laced Wyandotte x SS, 1 black sexlink x SS. Should be interesting! But back to the chicks, I don’t mind getting a bunch even...

McMurray bonus chick. What is it?

I think it’s an Easter egger and I honestly can’t tell if it’s a pullet or cockerel. I keep going back and forth. It was hatched on or around April 28th. It’s very flighty so it’s impossible to get a really good picture. Also it looks like a hawk. Lols.

    Chicken spina bifida?

My pullet seems totally fine except for the fact that she seems to be growing unevenly. Has anyone else had this happen? She looks as though her tail is always leaning to one side. I felt her pelvis and it does seem like one side is more prominent.

    Gold laced wyandottes

Okay, new to the wyandottes and considering working towards show quality birds. I’m in no hurry but wanted to pick your brains about a few of mine. I ordered 11 in April 10 pullets and one cockerel and ended up with what i believe to be one mis-sexed cockerel so 9 pullets and one cockerel which...

    What should I do?

I just had to euthanize one of my 12 wk old chicks because he got pecked by the older chickens. I have 12 younger ones and 4 older ones and they were free ranging while I thought the chicks had plenty of space to get away and places to hide. My speckled Sussex hen has been the most aggressive...
