HELP! 2 day old baby chick sneezing

We bought 10 broiler chicks on Monday (hatched Monday morning), and on Tuesday I noticed one chick sort of sneezing, certainly congested. He does that all the time now, no worse no better. It is Day 3 today. Another baby chick started to do the same. Do you know what's happening? We feed...

6 months young broody Muscovy - not sure what to do

A question for Muscovy keepers. Actually quite a few questions, LOL, as I am new to Muscovy! I have 6 months old Muscovy hen, who started to lay eggs recently. I first took a few eggs, checked fertility, and they are fertile. So I left the rest in the nest, hoping she'd set. She laid 20 eggs...

Young Buff Orp went broody in mid October!

I have a 7 months old Buff Orpington, who decided to do broody last week. She has been sitting on an empty nest faithfully for 4 days now, not leaving it for the night. She clucks like a broody when she comes out to poop and eat twice a day. The question is whether it is possible to hatch...

Young broody pullet - a question about moving her nest

I have a 6 months young Light Sussex pullet that went broody 2-3 days ago. She sits on 2 eggs right now, and refuses to move. I tried to move her (with the nest) into a different location, as the nest is the favorite nest for other 4-5 pullets, and everything was OK until she got up to poop and...

At which age Sussex hens would go broody?

We have a few Light Sussex pullets that are 3 months old. We are hoping they'll start laying in a couple of months. I am wondering if they'll go broody this year? Would they be good mothers as first-time broodies?

    Chicken hug :)

My Barred Rock pullets love to hug me. They jump on my knees, and put their neck on my shoulder, and stay there for a while, growling with pleasure. Here is the pic of our pullet Lapushka, 13 weeks old, hugging. Anybody else is hugging their chickens? ;)

1 week old baby chick with swollen abdomen

We have one of our baby chicks with swollen abdomen - it looks like a half egg yolk size thing, soft to touch. He does not seem to be in pain, drinks normally, but eats very little. He is lethargic most of time and stays under heat lamp, sleeping on his feet, while other chicks are actively...

17 baby chicks hatched on Christmas

Unexpectedly we got our 1 day old baby chicks almost a month earlier - they hatched on Christmas :) We were supposed to get them at the end of January, but because of the avian flu the hatchery would not be hatching any eggs after this last batch, so we were happy to take these chicks home. We...

    New member from BC Canada

Hello everybody, We do not have chickens yet, but we plan to get some in early spring. We have a large vegetable garden that is maintained naturally, with no sprays or chemicals. The soil is covered with woodchips, which helps to build up the soil and not irrigate, even in summer months when...
