Hi everyone, I have a hen that is limping pretty obviously on one foot. At first I thought her bumblefoot was getting worse, since she does have a dark speck on her left foot that I have been eyeing.
However, it seems to be the right foot that shes raising. She doesnt want to put pressure on...
A couple weeks ago we found our wyandotte hen limping, so we examined her foot and found the start of what seems to be bumblefoot. No swelling, but there was the characteristic dark spot on the bottom of the foot. We got super busy during the holiday season so all we could really do was monitor...
We have (foolishly) tried to integrate her earlier, when she was about 2 months, but that ended in absolute terror for the little one. Now she is terrified of the older birds and they for the most part dont try to chase her around unless shes close enough to nip. Shes a total mommas bird and...
we woke up to find one of our hens limping around. It wasnt noticeable at first, but when she started running for treats she started doing this comical hop/run. We checked her foot and couldnt find any signs of anything. Since shes a wyandotte which is a heavy breed I looked up bumblefoot, but...
They were due to start laying around thanksgiving, and 2 out of the 3 EE pullets did start right before thanksgiving. They were 5.5-6 months old at thanksgiving so those 2 were laying right on schedule. The other 2 are laying pretty consistently and no issues whatsoever. We are fairly certain...
My mom went to the feed store today looking for grower feed, and the feed store employee gave her gamefowl feed instead, saying that it works as grower feed for chickens, and that their customers get that as grower feed.... it didnt sound quite right to me, and so my mom went back again to check...
Is there a way to deter an opossume permananently without killing it? This opossum has killed out chickens before and we have since predator proofed our coop. HOWEVER, it still likes to visit from time to time.. we installed a movement sensing light around our coop area. the other day our light...
We have leghorn chicks under a week old free to good home. They came from large, white, grade AA eggs. We hatched them as our trader joes fertile egg experiment, and to our surprise, 11 of 12 hatched. We are only keeping 3, and so there will be 8 available. Now that they've all hatched, we dont...

We just hatched out this brahma chick, was told Iit was a gold laced brahma when we bought eggs, and I just wanted to make sure it is as labeled. I just can't find a chick pic of this particular variety. Thanks!
My wyandotte hen hasn't been laying in her box for a couple days now, how do we get her to go back in there to lay? She used to always lay in the box, but now she lays in the run instead. We have plastic containers as nest boxes that she sometimes tips over, could that be why?
We just finished our coop/run, and finally put our chickens in! no more sleeping in the bathroom for them! They love it out here, but Im wondering how to get them to actually sleep in the coop? They just sleep in the run for now, and dont seem to know to go into the box for sleeping. Also Ive...
I am absolutely paranoid about this. Is there a way to know if you accidentally pushed too far in, or hit a vein, or hit something you werent supposed to hit? I know if you hit a vein and you pull slightly back on the injection before you push the medication in you will know since blood will...
i think our hen may be wheezing, but im not sure. i woke up this morning and heard her making a strange sound.... it sounds flatter than her usual buck buck and more drawn out. as the day went by it stopped. now shes clucking but her voice may also be a bit more crackly than before. she still...
Our wyandotte is at the age where shes just about to lay and sang the egg song for the first time this morning! we have 3 more EEs, but they wont be laying until 3 months later. within the hour, on two separate occasions, our neighbors directly behind us and the ones to the side of us came by to...
ughhh i am self loathing so much as i write this. we recently acquired a hen and she seemed fine at the time, even though the place we got her from seemed a bit sketchy. that was the first stupid thing i did. then i put her in with the rest of my flock, and within the day i noticed her nose...
my wyandotte hen has been acting a bit strange lately. we added some 2 month old easter egger chicks as company. Shes been solo until now due to an attack a couple months ago from a night predator. she will fly/jump/run to the chicks and will lower her head and make herself look slightly rounder...
I introduced a maran hen to my wyandotte for company after our former flock got decimated by a oppossum in the night. I got the maran from a guy on CL who said shes already 11 months, so she is laying already. my question is during integration, she most likely wont lay until shes fully...
Hi, I recently acquired a black maran, about 11 months old. When I got her I noticed that she had some black specs on her face and wattle, but didn't think much of it since she's a black chicken.....until I looked it up, and saw that it could be a lot of things..... she's fairly new so idk her...
Im trying to understand what the local law for chickens in fresno is supposed to be. Ive heard people saying they keep chickens there legally and some who are saying that chickens are definitely not allowed. As you may know, fresno is known for agriculture and such so I dont know why chickens...
