Public Holiday in suburbia Melbourne today, we are having a lazy morning cuppa on the couch and about 9.30am the girls all start, what I initially thought was, "Come look, I've just laid an egg song".
As sometimes happens, everyone joined in the song (we have 9 girls and 1 silkie Rooster), and...
Hi everyone.
We are adopting a couple more girls in 2 weeks as ccurrent owners are moving and can't take their girls with them.
But they can't remember what breed this lovely lady is. Just curious.
Thanks in advance.
Pip
Just need to vent.
Went on holiday for 8 days and had friends stay and chicken sit and house sit for us. We were in the the middle of outback australia so we're out of range for a few days, 2 days before we could get home we got into range and got a message to call ASAP.
My heart sank. Half our...
The past 2 days we have got home from work and found 3 eggs over the 2 days, pecked and eaten or rements of a shell in the nest boxes.
I think it was the weekend gone I thought one of the girls had laid a no shell egg but now I'm thinking it had been eaten!
We have 9 girls that have been...
Pings was my only girl who would sit still yesterday and this morning it been pouring with rain so no photos yet...

Stay safe people!
So I just checked on the quails and noticed one didn't come for treats. She is puffy and sleepy and not eating anything.
I got the hospital ready while hubby got her inside. He noticed a whole bunch or liquid apparently from both nose and beak.
I tried to feel for an egg and I'm pretty sure it...

Hi everyone, yet again I have a poorly chook. She is approximately 3 years old. We rescued her about a month back as her previous owner could no longer care for her and her pal. They both seemed healthy and we intergrated them with our other girls, everyone seems happy.
This afternoon I noticed...
I've read some threads on the subject and I guess I'm not sure what is best. Our nearly 1 year old Polish started wanting to roost high, high up (maybe 10 foot) in the tree most nights and just this weekend we went out to do some errands and when we pulled in the drive, she was on the wrong...
Hello!
We rescued four chickens today and their previous owners weren't sure what breed they were. I reckon we might have a Sussex, Rhode Island Whites (x2) and either a Faverolle or a Belgian D'Uccle.
Thoughts?
Sorry pictures aren't great. The buggers won't stand still!
We are keeping...
So we have a silkie roo who is about 5 or 6 months old. I have noticed be is a little unsteady on his feet and often stumbles or falls on his face when he jumps off our arms (even when we are squatting on the ground).
This morning I was watching and he extended his neck and then rolled it right...
We have a 9 or 10 month old polish who was regularly giving us about 3 - 4 eggs a week. She has suddenly stopped. Not one egg from her in nealry 2 weeks. Not broody, no signs of illness. She is too flighty to pick up to see if she if egg bound (and I wouldn't know what to do to check that)
Could...
HI.
We have had 3 quails for about 1 month. I was checking the aviary for eggs today as we haven't had any for a few days now (they are in a space approx 3m x 3m x 3m with 30 odd finches), well i noticed one quail was puffed - it is also quite cold at the moment (max temp of.12 degrees Celsius...
Hi, just wanting a second opinion. We introduced 2 20 week old silkies to our flock 1 week ago and they are sleeping in a different coop to our other girls. Went to clean the coop today and noticed this poop with what looks like some insides. From the chicken poop chart on other threads I think...
We introduced 4 new chooks 2 weeks ago - 2 Pekings, a polish and an australorp to our existing 2 silkies (1 hen, 1 rooster). Note the Pekings and polish have been together since quite young - now approx 22 weeks
One of the Pekings already had missing tail feathers and they are growing back but...
