I have Isa Browns that are a little over a year old. Today I noticed alot of blood on an egg shell so I did vent checks. One of them that is missing quite a few feathers had what looked like puss in her vent. Can someone please tell me what is wrong with her.
I have an isa brown that is wheezing and sounds like she is having a hard time breathing and she's all puffed up and kinda just standing around and not with the other 10. What could it be? I live in Maine and the weather has been getting colder at night if thay matters.
Not quite sure where to post this. I went to the coop this morning to find 2 of my isa browns with bare butts. I didn't notice it there yesterday. They are 6 months old. Not quite sure what's going on. First time having chickens and haven't had a problem with them at all. 1 of them usually has a...
My favorite pullet Mimi is laying soft shelled eggs. The night before last I watched her lay one in their run and obviously the others were all over it. Last night I weren't down there at this time so I don't know if she laid one or not. Tonight I noticed her in which I call labor, so I took her...
FINALLY GOT MY FIRST EGG!!!! I don't know which of the 12 that laid it, I think it was Mimi. I checked her pelvic bones yesterday and could fit 3 fingers between them. But there's like 5 others close to laying. I am so excited!!!!!
My pullets will be 17 weeks on friday and still not laying. They are isa browns. A few of their combs are plumping nicely and bright red. Anyways, one of them has decided to be a brat lately and picking fights with the others or stalking them to peck them. She is one of the more developed ones...
If I put shavings in my nesting boxes like I have on the coop floor, will they think it's ok to go to the bathroom in there until I get a bale of hay? I really need to open the boxes but haven't been able to make it to the farm yet.
Not sure what forum to put this on. In my girls run the ground is too hard to be able to dust bathe the way they should. I have one of those large green turtles that are children's sand boxes that my nephew and niece had, which I am going to turn into the dust bath area for my 12 chickens. Can I...
I know I have heard when my pullets are close to laying you can fit 2 fingers between their pelvic bones but then I just read a few articles that said when they start laying or close you can fit one finger and farther on in the laying process they will spread to fit 2 fingers. Anyone know which...
My Isa Browns are 13 weeks old. For quite awhile I have been finding Feathers in the coop and run. I know some of them are from flying around the coop but do they keep losing feathers and new ones coming in where they are growing. None of the 12 of them have any bald spots or anything. Wanted to...
I have 12 isa browns. A few of them when I pet them they squat and have been for a few weeks. Their faces are turning red. The past 2 days they have been flying up on the edge of the nest boxes that I have had boards sitting in so they can't get in them. They seem to be checking them out and...
My chickens are very well taken care of and watched close so I know when one is acting different. This morning I went to the coop to clean them, feed them and let them in their run and found this on the roost.
they are all running around and happy as usual. Eating and drinking. They are 13...

Just a few questions... I have Isa browns at what age should I open up their nesting boxes? I've heard they start around 16-18 weeks, not sure if that's true. Also my pullets are 10 weeks old right now and been in their coop for a week now. When bed time comes they either lay on floor or roost...
So my 12 9 week old girls are finally headed to the coop today. Any advice would be great on putting them out there. I'm a newbie and uneasy for some reason for them going out there.
My 8 week old chicks are going to be headed to the coop hopefully this weekend it should be done. They are on starter grower feed from TSC. How much chick grit do I add to their food so I can start giving them treats and them eating bugs?
I have 12 isa browns. All are really good except one lately. They are still in their brooder since the coop is being built still. Taking longer then expected. When I put my hand in the brooder or even above this one chick will leap up and peck me. Which pinches and has broke my skin. I've been...
