So… Guineas are notoriously terrible mothers, as I found out today. Apparently, a Guinea hatched a clutch and decided to leave them/ let them wander. I caught one, and might catch one or two later, but they're scattered around the pasture.
If this ends up being the only one I manage to catch...
My hen, Scruffles has a black comb (I think they're scabs because when you touch it, it bleeds), a hard time breathing (labored, shallow gasps), and the runs. I thought it was because her back end was clogged up. I gave her a warm bath, complete with Epsom salt, and "unclogged" her. She...
My broody hen, Bertha might have a yeast infection. After successfully hatching 16 healthy Guineas, I noticed that the feathers on her underside (belly) are gone. There is some redness and irritation. She is acting normally, and hasn't been pecking her belly. She is a great mother so far and I...
So… I have a Guinea that has a broken leg. It's been like that for a while and is backwards. So instead of the foot on the ground it is facing up straight in front of his/ her chest.
It seems to get around fine (a little slow) and has healed, so it doesn't hurt anymore
I just wanted some opinions
ive had my chicks for about 4 days. The first day one died which I assumed was normal because they were shipped. Then the one with straddle leg died, he couldn't get to his food and I hobbled him too late. All normal, you always loose a couple.
BUT TODAY 3 chicks died randomly. I mean randomly...
absolutely cannot walk. She slides around on her belly with her legs out from her sides. I've heard of bowleggedness but this is kinda the opposite. She can't get at her food, and is getting weak.
Estimated age is two or three days
so I got 30 chicks yeaterday and one's already died. Today I noticed one that absolutely cannot walk. She slides around on her belly with her legs out from her sides. I've heard of bowleggedness but this is kinda the opposite. She can't get at her food, and is getting weak.
Estimated age is two...

Q2: Avatar? I want to change it.
Q3: am I missing anything interesting? Just to make sure
My chickens that I hatched don't like me. When they hatched I had some school still left (about 2 weeks) and I was juggling school and 20 chickens. I also had "special" a chick that hatched without an eye and at first I isolated him and while doing end of the year homework I would check on him a...
I want to know before this winter, if chickens can use snow as a water source. In Wisconsin we sometimes get drifts above our heads. I am more than capable of getting a heated waterer, but I could save a little money if snow is an option.
P.s chickens first winter (my first chickens a swell)
I...
I just got sand in my coop and want to know how well it works in the long run. What do I do for cleaning? Is it better than other methods?
Note that I'm not there all the time to clean it (automatic feeder and huge waterers)
I have 19 laying chickens. I hatched them sometime in June. They are a mixture of Road Island Red, Plymouth (barred) Rock, and Buff Orpington. What age do they start laying at? We have a brand new (huge) coop, and I don't have nesting boxes yet. I don't want them to develop bad habits because...
They seem to be getting big, and when I open the top of my brooder they roost on top. @ 2 weeks old, there are 19. There used to be 20, one was born with a deficiency and ended up dying despite my best efforts.
She was the last to hatch yesterday, when I put her in, the others pecked her. That's normal and they usually grow out of it. But when I checked on her I found she was missing an eye, and many of her feathers were pecked out. I separated her, not the bullies because all of them seemed to be...
