    Gapeworm??

Noticed our 4 1/2 year old RSL seemed to be ‘barking’ occasionally this morning. She was lively and eating and looking well. I have heard of Gapeworm, so mixed Flubenvet with the pellets, just in case. When I’ve gone to put them to bed, she is gasping and wheezing and extending her neck. Is this...

Whennto let new chicks free range in the garden?

Hi all, It’s been ages since I posted, sorry. We recently one of our hens and now have only one. She is a 41/2 year old ‘ginger’ called Winnie. On Saturday we picked up two 18 week olds, a Light Sussex and a Bluebell. They are gorgeous. Winnie is not liking the newbies and is being very...

How to tell if one particular hen isn't laying?

Our 4 RSLs have been laying an egg each everyday without fail since September. For the last 2 weeks we have been only getting 3 eggs. I can't tell who isn't laying. They all seem well. Is there a "magic" way of finding out? Thanks. Emma.

    Newbie who is fretting!

Only 1 of our flock of four is laying at the moment - 17/18 week old RSLs. She lauded yesterday for the first time and again today. Perfect little eggs. Our 4 RSLs are 6 weeks old now. How would you describe them being fully feathered? They do still have a bit of 'fluff.' This is 2 of them a week ago.x

    Mealworm for four week olds???

Would it be ok to give our 4 week old RSLs some mealworm treats yet? I'd like to begin feeding them treats by hand. If so, should they have chick grit too?

    Do chicks sneeze?

One of our 4 week old RSLs appears to be 'sneezing.' Is this possible and anything to worry about?x

    Two weeks old already!

Our four red red sex links are two weeks d already. I can't believe how quickly they are growing and changing. So many feathers coming through- you can almost see them growing. They are just gorgeous and as a chicken newbie, I am besotted!

    A newbie from the UK

Hi everyone I'm Emma and have become the lucky owner of 4 sex linked hens that were incubated and hatched by the reception class at the school I teach at. They are between 3 and 4 weeks old and I am hooked! Loving this site, I have learnt so much.
