I was wondering if Heritage bred (using 2 Heritage breeds) sexlinks were superior to hatchery sexlinks.
I have 2 hatchery black sexlinks that produce nice extra large eggs...could the egg laying quality be improved?
Thanks..
Mike
Has anyone moved house and taken their chickens with them?
My daughter and her husband live in So Cal, as I do, and will be moving to Michigan sometime next year. She has asked me if I would like to move up there when they settle in.
I told her I would think about it and then wondered how I...
I have built a new chicken run and want to shuffle my chickens around.
My main flock consists of 14 twenty two weeks old (run #1), of which I am transferring 5 to the new run and coop.
My second flock of 7 eighteen weeks old (run #2) I am transferring 4 chickens to run #1.
I now have 2 eleven...
A little history...I got this as a free egg when I ordered Polish eggs from Dick Horstman.
The chick soon outgrew the others but was really slow at feathering out, at least 3-4 weeks behind. Wattles and comb became quite large for he(r) age...has never attempted to crow, but seems to be the...
I have an eight week old WCP that has just started to crow, hatched from Dick Horstman eggs.
I live in California City between Lancaster and Ridgecrest. Will drive 20 miles.
PM me if interested.
In the last month I have only hatched 4 chicks out of 24 eggs...2 breeders and 4 different breeds of chicken. All eggs were shipped USPS.,
8 Silver Spangled Spitzhauben = 0
4 Lakenvelders = 1
4 Silver Laced Polish = 2
8 Sumatra = 1 (5 were clear at 10 days).
My previous hatch was 8 out of...
I am making some perches out of old weathered 2x4 and was wondering if there was some chemical I can spray on to prevent the possibility of mites taking hold. The wood is old and full of small cracks, and is going into a new 'plastic' coop I am assembling. I am tossing the small, puny, perches...
Here are some pics of my other EE...he/she is larger than the EE you said was a cockerel. Head of the cockerel is just in the pic at the bottom.
Thank you.
Cockerel also in the pic.
I purchased these as pullets from 2 different breeders...they are just over 10 weeks old.
Thanks
Easter Egger
Plymouth Rock
White Leghorn
Black Australorp
I cut out the pop door and opened up for the pullets to go out into the world...2 days later not one ventured out into their new chicky playground.
I checked the forums on BYC and read that it is not unusual for this to happen, and that by putting the food outside and putting the birds outside...
About all I've got to do is cut the pop door!... and put up a few perches, and put in feeders and drinkers.
My 8 week old pullets should be in chookie heaven.
Temps are high here, 106 today, so the sprinkler system will help to cool things down.
Hopefully I'll be renting a 'jig saw' tomorrow and...
Here we have 2 Australorps
2 EE (purchased as Ameraucanas)
White leghorn
Plymouth rock
RiR
They are all 8 weeks old...the 2 EE's are feisty and will have a 3 second sparring match.
I would like your expert opinion...
Thanks
I have a 12ft x 8ft shed that I used to raise canaries, but stopped doing that 15 years ago. I made a work bench and stored all my tools in there, and then realized I could make it into a chicken coop by just partitioning my work area off. Got the cooler back working (it was 118 deg in there the...
I am contemplating purchasing an incubator just for final hatching, so egg turning is not required.
I don't want to spend a lot of money (up to $75), and would want one at least 40 egg capacity. What are your recommendations?...I don't mind if it's styrofoam or plastic.
Thanks
Hello...
I got these babies 9 days ago as 1 week olds from a local breeder (50 miles away lol), but I think the lorps are a couple days older judging by their size. I ordered 3 more chicks from Dare to Dream Farms, a White Leghorn, RIR and a Barred Rock...they will be 3 weeks old on arrival...
Hello...
Has anyone hatched eggs in the house with a swamp cooler running?
I live in the So Cal high desert, with very low humidity, and have just started running my swamp cooler, as temps are creeping up to 100 deg (by August they could be 110 deg).
I want to start hatching eggs, but am worried...
