    3 Broodies + 22 eggs = 4 chicks

Stared 3 weeks ago with 3 broody hens. Two i moved to a separate coop and one I left where she was with the flock(this was a bad idea) Chicken #1 that was left with the flock started with 12 eggs, all marked with the date on them. However, even though she was in her own little 11" square nest...

    Broody pullets

So this is my first time experiencing broody hens. It’s appears that I have one Buff Orpington and one Welsummer pullet gone broody. They are both 7 months old. They are both attempting to sit on eggs in my roll away nest. I had found an egg with little holes in them in the collection area and...

What’s going on here? Is this chicken going to die?

As I was feeding my chickens this afternoon I noticed that one of them had something hanging from it’s behind. I caught her and this is what I found. Looks like an egg still surrounded by intrenals, I think it may have been like this for a day already. Is this chicken likely to die? Should...

    Chicken laying yolks

I think one of my 2 year old hens is squeezing out yolks. Yesterday I found yolk on the ground just out side the coop with no egg shell in sight and today I spotted a large yellow yolk spot inside the coop. About a month ago or so she did have trouble laying a soft shell egg. Any way to correct...

Hen seems to be in distress

I have a 2 year old hen who seems to be in some sort of distress. Yesterday evening I noticed her standing in one spot all puffed up which seemed unusual. Then at 8:30 when I went to lock up the coop, I peaked inside and she was sitting inside one of the nesting boxes, again strange. Then this...

Cut a chickens nails or do nothing?

So I just noticed one of my pearl leghorns has something strange going on. On the middle toe of both feet, the nail is about an inch or more long and when standing the nail and toe roll to one side. Should I clip these nails for her? And if so are they like a dogs nails and bleed if cut to short?

I went out this morning to give my chickens water and food and found one of my 9 week old cornish rock X on the back and gasping for air. I am not sure what happened but I assume somehow she fell on her back and could not get back up due to her mass. I picked her up and flipped her back over...
